I hate drivers who can't shift gears on their manual cars smoothly

The ones that take 3-5 seconds to shift on each gear. Of course the car is coasting during this time so if I'm still accelerating behind them I have to let my foot off the gas and a few times even having to brake as not to hit them.

If you're going to drive a manual car learn to shift correctly.

Oh god, the sheer horror!

I don't. I usually keep atleast 1 1/2 car lengths but if they're coasting for 5 seconds during a gear shift while I'm still steadily accelerating that gap can close up real quick.

Sounds like you're following too closely.
There is merit here. That or OP is behind a bunch of MT F-350 Power Strokes. That long shifter on top of that diesel is not the fastest shifter I have ever tried 😉 And never use 1st without a load on it. You go about 3 feet and have to shift to 2nd (which is why, even when I dislike them intensely, I got the automatic).

A) Lift off the throttle
B) Drop two gears and go around them at 7K

I prefer B when it's available. 😉

Quoted For Emphasis

I'm currently in the process of learning to drive a manual. I've never stalled it, but I was at a stoplight once, when the car was having clutch issues, and I couldn't get it into gear. That was embarassing.

I've gotten to the point where smooth starts in first gear are still an issue (working on that), but a relaxed (i.e. slow and smooth) shift takes under two seconds for this nub.

I have never in my life seen this happen.

You drive a pretty powerful car - do you think maybe their cars are just a little slower than yours, or they're a little less aggressive with the gas pedal?

So then, look at this as a potential opportunity to work for yourself... open a driving school specifically to teach people how to drive a Manual-shift vehicle...

otherwise, shut up about it..

A lot of people just like to shift slowly. Yea it does annoy me a bit also, but it is no biggie. I just don't like the down shift since I don't see their brake lights. lol.

Sounds like you tailgate like crazy. Honestly, who has to BRAKE when the car in front of them shifts? Easy on the gas pedal, Andretti, no one will think you're a loser if you're not first off the line.

Be easy on him, he's a lexus driver, the field commander of the road!

Judging by that cluster**** of parts vendors, I'm surprised he can see through the stickers. 😀

Actually happens quite a bit at stop lights. Everyone else is accelerating smoothly most of the time, but sometimes youget behind someone who either can't drive manual very well or is just shifting slowly... so their pattern becomes accelerate... drift......... accelerate.......... drift.............. So if you are accerating smoothly from a stop light (where everyone usually normally closes the gaps) then it can be annoying. I can't believe some of you are acting like you have never seen this.

Lets consider long cars of ~15 feet. If you are 1.5 car lengths back, that is a distance of 22.5 feet. I'll round up to 25 feet just to be very generous. Lets use the standard good road condition and good weather 2 second following rule. In this case, you can travel a MAXIMUM of 8.5 MPH before you are officially tailgaiting.

(25 * ft) / (2 * sec) = 8.5 MPH.

Are you driving slower than 8.5 MPH? Probably not. Also, who shifts at 8.5 MPH? Probably no one. So you are either (a) incorrect about your distance or (b) tailgating.

I can see getting into 1st being rough for some people... but geez after you're moving, it's ridiculously easy...

I've seen plenty of slower shifters and slow accelerators out there, but never to the point where I've actually had to use my brake pedal...just letting of the gas is usually sufficient, seeing as how you're then coasting just like the person in front of you.

What I REALLY find to be annoying, though, are people who not only drive automatics with two feet rather than one (which I could possibly forgive), but who--while doing so--end up constantly pressing the brake and gas pedals AT THE SAME TIME. Bah.

Yeah, often you just have to stop accelerating too, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. Anyway, I also hate people who drive with both feet on the pedals to the point that their brake lights are always on. WTF!?!?!
