I hate COMPUTERS.

Im so mad right now I've been working on my computer all damn night to get it fixed...

Mozilla won't connect to any page, I've deleted the program completely and it still wont work...

This all happened after I deleted WinTools (WSup.exe/WTools.exe, a bunch of IE crap that my sister got on here)...

Argh, I hate this internet so much...

better than me
firefox.exe won't open. it crashes everytime I try to open it.

ie sucks. I am using mozilla now. I miss firefox. I am using quick reply.

i'm happy with IE. i don't see any point getting additional browsers that end up consuming more memory on the whole, as IE is integrated into windows anyway

That's not the worst I have heard of with WinTools. This one guy's computer had the boot files deleted, so he had to reformat.

All quality issues aside, one solid point for non-IE browsers is that people aren't working around the clock to exploit them. 95% of people surfing the web use IE, painting a pretty big target on it. M$ works to fix exploits which have been found, but sometimes it seems like more time passes between when one is found and when it's fixed than between when it's fixed and when the next exploit is found.

Anyway, to the OP - if you can reinstall the OS, do so. Take steps to ensure that your sister and whoever else that is computer-illiterate and will use it can't / won't install spyware. I'm not terribly familiar with it, as nobody but me goes near my rig, but I believe you can have a guest account for them which won't allow them to make changes (such as installing spyware), and the new Spybot (v1.3) has a resident program that's supposed to prevent the install of spyware.

uhhh.. hate to state the obvious, but if you delete a program completely, there's very little chance it will work
😀

uhhh.. hate to state the obvious, but if you would read you would know the program he talked about deleting was WinTools

I had nothing but problems with Mozilla - I'll just stick with IE v6.028 - works great for me and have never had a problem.

ie works fine.

I.E. is a security nightmare....I use Firefox it works awesome.

Sysadmin

true that it is made by microsoft and has 10000 security flaws, but i mean that does REALLY affect you? to this day i've never had any script or virus takeover my pc or do anything through IE (or anything at all)... i think there are much easier and more dangerous things that people have on their pc than IE...

almost all sites are configured to look perfect in IE, and i know its the way microsoft wants it, but everyone uses IE and its the best thing ive used...

IE is crap. Why would you use something that has TWO YEAR OLD HOLES that still crash it today??? (warning: save your work before clicking that if you are stubborn enough to use "hack me please" MSIE...). All your extensions like MyIE2 / Avant / Crazy Browser do nothing to protect you from stuff like that.

To this day, I've never been hit by a car, even though I don't look both ways before crossing the street

I'm curious about these "problems" people claim to have with Mozilla... I've used it for years without major trouble (every program gives you little annoyances sometimes).

i understand it has holes, but not since win98 have i had iexplore.exe crash...

yea, there are those security test sites that exploit the holes, but ive never had a site format c: or install a virus or something...

I'm ready to toss this sonbitch out the window I'm so mad that Firefox still wont work...

It refuses to connect with anything... Any ideas???

You're blaming FireFox because you removed crapware - software generally known to mess with network settings, and it stopped working???

Check to see if you have a proxy set in your FireFox options.

I got spyware using IE just by visiting some porn sites. I had every update available through the Windows Update site, and never clicked "yes" on any of the active X pop-ups. I got that home-page hijack thing simply by visiting a site, using IE.

I'm using Firefox now, no popups, and better security is nice. Seems faster on a lot of sites too.

If Schadenfroh's topic hadn't gotten fubarred, there was a link for restoring the Winsock, or something like that. Why not reinstall or repair the OS?
