I always have, im getting close to being done but I feel like im just dragging myself though it. So sick of bull shit classes and teachers and memorizing tons of usless information because someone else told me I should.

Wait until you send out hundreds of resumes and then still end up being a barista. Then you can deal with customer bullshit, useless work skills, and memorizing tons of coffee drinks.

i was tired of college too during my senior year. now i'm dying to be a student again.
 
Did you pick a major that you really care about? I don't think you would find the information useless if you really cared about it.

I have a friend that chose a business degree because he thought it would lead to a high paying job. He hated every bit of it and couldn't wait to graduate. He's now working on becoming a teacher for disabled students.
 
Won't it feel great then when you finally graduate, and there's no entry level jobs in your field. FML. :\
 
Oh there's entry level jobs alright. Problem being there's 2928347271 people with 5-10 yrs of experience recently laid off that are ALSO competing for those entry level jobs... Wait til you graduate, it gets worse, us new graduates simply can't compete in this job market with no prior job experience... (Well if you hire me, I'll GET experienced! I'm a quick learner! Right? Right?!)

I'd kill to be back in school. Sending out 200 resumes and customized cover letters just to get back a scant 10 responses, all of which are rejections is no fun... I love my field (Engineering), and I really wanted to get started on a good career but I'm thinking Grad school is a better option at this point. (Graduated last May, still working a temp. position outside of the field).

i took 5 years after highschool before i went to college...i miss just working and not having to work on busy work bullshit.

i have some classes i like, and i also have some gen ed kind of requirements that are really, really boring.
 
What is your major and what do you plan to pursue once you graduate?

If you don't like what you're doing thats either sign that you picked the wrong major for you or you could just not be college material.
 
You're looking at the college experience incorrectly if you always hated it. Class is a little piece of it. Get involved, do internships, go study abroad, join a frat, do intramural sports, start a business, or whatever. There are tons of shit you can do outside of classes.

You're almost done so stick with it and finish. I hope you know what you're planning to do with your degree because it can pay huge dividends for you. If not, you might have wasted your time.

I got my job halfway through my degree, no reason to wait. I have hated school since the 4th grade.

View college as a Union Card (i.e. put your time in to gain your membership for the increased wage). The same with an MBA/Law Degree.

I was pretty burned out by the end, between a crushing courseload and personal life drama.

after graduation, I accepted the first job offer that: paid enough for me to live on my own, provided health insurance, and had absolutely nothing to do with anything I studied in college.

My major is information systems its in the business department at my school so I have to take a bunch of accounting, marketing, management classes crap like that. Im sure ill hate it less when im actually in the major taking classes that are actually interesting to me. I actually am working right now I work at a methadone clinic and I am their whole IT department so when I graduate I wont be lacking experience. I infinitely prefer any job Ive ever had or school, I find jobs are usually challenging in some way school is just memorize this book and take a test, rinse and repeat.

OP, glad to see you're getting experience while still in college. For those close to attending or recently enrolled, you can usually get quite a bit of real experience. Starting your first week of school, go to the professors, see if they have any projects that they could take on a freshman in. Several of my recent graduates (physics/calculus in high school) took my advice seriously. One began working during the summer at Cornell's particle accelerator on a research project during the summer of her freshman year. And, made a significant amount of money doing so. Another engineer/physics major (sophomore) will be working with the James Webb Space Telescope this summer. When they graduate, they'll already have outstanding experience, and they'll get good jobs.

Same boat here, so to speak. I wanted to do IT yet not do Computer Science, and our Computer Information Systems section was a concentration of Business Admin. I had all of 4 courses related to my desired career field, though I took a lot of CompSci electives. And most of my courses were rote memorization. It'll all perk up once you graduate, however. Since you're getting a good bit of practical resume buffing experience you'll have a leg up.

One thing I did learn from the business portion of my degree is to network like a mofo. Several of my classmates had high paying jobs lined up right out of college when they could barely scrape by with a passing D and no practical experience all due to networking. Every job except one I've had since graduation has been due to knowing people in the right places. My last job would never had hired me due to lack of experience if it wasn't for another employee speaking to the right people. And once hired on, they realized that I was a valuable employee.

DrPizza's advice is great. Not only will it get you additional job experience, but it'll also allow networking opportunities that might be able to get you a leg up vice the general population applying for the job.

I know that doesn't necessarily make the whole college aspect any more fun, but at least it's something to look forward to. I felt like my college experience was nothing but paying 4 years of my life and $20,000 for a piece of paper, but even with networking many jobs in IT might not really bother to hire you without a degree. But as some other posters mentioned, you can sorta make it a better or more useful experience.
 
Fuck...if I could afford it, I'd become a professional college student.

I dropped out of high school in my sophmore year and enlisted in the USMC...and went to Vietnam. I got my GED when I came home, then got a union apprenticeship and went to work.
I tried going to school a couple of times over the years, but my work schedule would never allow it.
After I got hurt a few years ago, the work comp folks forced me into a "retraining program," and I fought it tooth & nail...I DID NOT want to go to college or any flunky trade school.

I never suspected, going to college was a fucking blast!!

I enjoyed the challenges of learning something new every day...of competing with the youngsters for GPA, (I know it doesn't mean shit...except to me) and finishing every class with one of the highest total scores in the class.

If you don't enjoy going to college, you're doing it wrong...

A fucking Men brother. I am in my second to last semester. The assholes in my department decided to cancel the class I needed to graduate since there were only 12 sign ups, and 15 are required since space is limited so alas I have to wait till Fall to take it. Back on point, I've been in college so long everything just feels like a bunch of bullshit at this point. All the logistics and stuff are so routine its become such a cake walk. I haven't even touched homework this semester and it seems like I am doing way better than anyone in any of my classes. Meh. Stick in there...it'll be worth it. The way I see it....I could've been working my ass of the past 4 1/2 years and been making about the same amount I started at (10 /hr) Or gone to college and possible get a job making double that. Plus I learned alot.


I'm going to go pass out so I can make it to class at 9am.
