but at least swordfish has a kick-butt soundtrack and really cool ball-bearing bomb scene

And with a topless shot, it's 3 for 3. :D

.0.1?

Doesn't matter. I believe 192.168.XXX.XXX is for personal use and really isn't owned by anyone.
They're called private IPs. 10.x and 172.16.x.x are the others.

I think the best example of W T F computer-related thing was in BOILER ROOM, the FBI dude asked Giovanni Ribisi to backup his whole harddrive onto a floppy. Now THAT was a good one.

just once i'd like to see a movie where that happens, and the guy laughs out loud and says "wtf are you high"

Or if they'd quickly copy all the files of the bad guy to disc and got an 'out of diskspace' error :p

<---idiot.

An IP number consists of 4 groups of numbers:
Hexadecimal 0-FF, Decimal 0-255.

255.255.255.254 (0 and 255 on the last one are reserved) would be strange but possible, numbers over 255 are not.

Indeed, also known as 'localhost', an address which is always aliased to your own NIC.

ah....i knew that too, crap...IPv6 looks pretty cool though, i'm assuming it will have 6 classes instead of the 4 that the current one has...very very cool... :D

why would they need 6?

there are something like 4.2 billion combinations of current ip's

So I'm guessing that the guy saying many many lawsuits using that ip was being sarcastic.

Because of the Internet Anywhere mantra that's coming in the future. Cellphones, Wireless devices, I-Net Homes, Smart Fridges, Show On Demand Devices....and all the other stuff that people are clammoring to sell one day. 4.2 billion is not enough, and it's been predicted that we'll be out of IPs by 2010 under the current IP Numbering scheme.

But you aren't a nerd. I always get a kick out of the computer sh!ts in tv shows. I especially like where they cna take a photo and enhance a photograph of a helicopter in the distance to where you can see the people inside, and not to mention that they do it in under 2 minutes.........I think the CSI team should investigat the Kennedy assasination cuz I'm sure they could figure out the 2nd Gunman.

BTW. Swordfish was completely laughable. But cool bombscene + Halle Berry = show to watch again and again.

Gun to head, something to other head crack into this site/server in one minute or your dead.....
makes me laugh over and over.

Imagine all the scriptkiddies (wannabe crackers) who attack that address, and subsequently knock down their own computer... Only in the USA can they sue a TV show for misinformation ;)

That's what I first thought they should do after having seen The Net with Sandra Bullock (mmm.... Sandra Bullock). They used one there that was ridiculous.

Then they could have used an RFC 1918 address.
