I hate and love my new Opteron 165 at the same time!

My new Opteron 165 (see sig) is a dud, I think, it just got to 2.4 GHz at stock vcore, but it won't go any higher :( (might be the RAM, though). That's the part I hate.

The part I love, however, is that I'm now, installing Office 2000, running Azureus, scanning for spyware, using Norton Antivirus, listening to WinAMP and surfing the net all at the same time, without a single hiccup :D. Multitasking rules.

Meh, I'll wait until my RAM arrives, which is anywhere between Friday and next Wednesday. This RAM can't even run at it's DDR333 spec :|.

Using the 100 (DDR200) divider?
HT multi set to 3x?

And like Mogadon says up the juice, 2.4ghz is pretty good for stock vcore

Meh, it'll be okay. It's just this stupid RAM, it won't even properly run at PC2100 (133 MHz).

me too but sometimes just because you get a certain batch is not a guarantee overclock. ;)

the 165 0550 UPMW is not hitting 2.8-3.0ghz on air..phase yes

170 0550 UPMW was better than 165 and hit 2800 for many with about 1.5v+ and often required air cooling

165/170 0550 vpmw are doing the best and more often reaching 2800+ at low vcore but seem to get pretty hot as vcore is bumped....

I think you expected a bit much for a 165....

Meh, it's a CCBWE 0550 UPMW. It's supposed to do 2.8~3.0 GHz :(.

Says who? Just because one person gets to a certain level doesnt mean everyone will. You know anything over 2.4 is luck of the draw. :)
