I priced Adobe Photoshop CS (Full Retail) at BestBuy the other day. They want $650 for that sh!t.

Now I really have to scratch my head when I see it on warez!

I bet if it wasn't $650, there would be alot less warez.

Adobe makes professional products. Most on here dont really need photoshop etc.

Adobe makes a killing, because any company that uses warez, gets sued for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Home users are not the market adobe is catering to. Its just like Maya, or Max, or XSI. These are programs cost $3,000-$12,000, they arent for the home user. The home user doesnt need a powerful photo editor, or illustrator.

Which is why they don't really care about warez use. If anything, it creates a broader base of people who know the software without having to learn it at a company first. They probably hope their product gets pirated (by amateurs) more than competing ones.

I am so sick of Acrobat Reader. Causes nothing but problems in the labs here since 50% of the people who access an online PDF file try to print it through the "File -> Print" in IE. That won't print the file. The other 50% actually use the "Print" button in the Acrobat Reader frame, but 50% of the time that doesn't work either. The only way to reliably get PDF files to print is to have the students save them to the hard disk first and then print from Acrobat Reader itself (not the IE integration).

If PDF files would just open within a new instance of Acrobat Reader it would be so much better.

It blows ass with firebird (haven't tried with firefox yet) too. Yet clicking on a .pdf link in linux with firebird opens up gpdf in less than 1 second with the pdf displayed properly every time. Adobe reader takes 5-7 seconds to load and half the time crashes firebird. If I download the pdf and open it with reader itself it works, but still takes 5-7 seconds to load. What a POS program.

Can someone direct me to a comparable, free vector-based graphic design software, then? There's no technical reason I use Illustrator, I just don't know what else I could use...

Adobe doesnt give 2 sh!ts about some teenage kids or college kids dloading their software to hack and edit pictures to post on some forum boards.... they are after a much larger market that HAS to pay for the software itself. How many copies of PS do you think they sell at Best Buy?
