Gave up on the Intercept/Virgin Mobile, too damned slow

I get >20% off with my employee discount, hardware & contract, just waiting for 4G to fire up in LA

LOL, bite me, am trying to decide if 4G is worth it, or go with a Droid X...

They gave me a cute little sticker when I voted today. It made me smile.

Sprint has horrible 3G speeds and its really annoying. I get less than 1mbs. 4G is nice but its not widespread at all. 8-10 mbs with 4G. I wish Tmobile had a better discount =(

I just picked up an evo today as well. So far I love it,but I literally live across the street from a 4G tower so I get really nice signal and speeds far as I can tell. I'll have a better idea on battery life after I root.

Purely based on location. At my house I get 400mb/s, at work twenty miles down the road it's over 2mb. I really don't get the need for crazy high speeds on a phone. As long as it can stream video without issue that's good enough for me. All we need now is that damn netflix Android app to be released already. You're not downloading torrents with the damn thing, at least shouldn't be. I love my EVO though.

Once I get a new phone, I'm sure streaming Slingbox over 4G would be sweet. On my current phone it sucks.

Well everywhere in my area I get poor 3G speeds. That's Orange County and LA. Under 1mb/s at all times.

400 mb/s? That's 50 MB/s! I'd kill for that kind of speed!

Netflix wil come to Android soon enough. I'm using it on my iPhone and it rocks. Quality is great, but it'll gobble up your data plan.

Got 1200 down in downtown LA, 400 to 600 down at home, Sprint hasn't fired up 4G in LA yet.

Love the phone so far, nice & fast... a lot like the HD2, but I actually get a decent signal, and I didn't have to hack Android onto it.

I have only heard good things about the Evo. Well besides people complaining about small cosmetic stuff. That phone has all the right specs and even a kickstand. I WANT A KICKSTAND!!!

Not where I am. My 3g speeds are very fast here in N.E. Kansas and the time it takes to even kick in the 3g network is about 3x faster than AT&T.

I love my EVO and just got the extended battery. Its bigger, sure, but can now go for 2+ days without a recharge.

Data maybe unlimited on Sprint but bandwidth is not. I've been through about 15 states since I switched to Sprint and 3G data rates are bad in many places. At the DFW airport I can't get 4G yet and the data rates on 3G are in the dialup modem range. In many other places the data rates are not much better. So, as people use there limited network harder the data rates will only get worse.

Nthing the experience that Sprint's 3G transfer rates suck. The fact that I can't seem to get a 4G signal inside at either work or home is also bothersome, though it works in both places as soon as I step outside. I love my Evo to death, but not so happy with Sprint's data service.

From what I have read, its not just you nor is it just Sprint. 4G penetration sucks. Which doesn't make much sense at all. Most people are going to use 4G while indoors (at least I hope they aren't watching mobile TV in their car) yet all the providers are worried about is saying that an area is covered, not whether or not its usable.

It is just Sprint. Sprint is using a higher frequency for wimax, it's not wimax itself but the frequency they are using for it. Verizon isn't going to have this issue.

Again, it's location dependent. Sprint's network isn't as good as Verizon, nothing new there. It has areas that work better than others. If you travel a lot I would spend the extra money and go with Verizon. For those of us who don't and have good Sprint coverage where we frequent Sprint is cheaper for comparable service. If you have your phone set-up properly you can roam on Verizon towers. Though when roaming you are at the bottom of the food chain behind Verizon customers on those towers so it's not going to be like it's a Verizon phone but better than not being able to do so.

Bandwidth isn't going to be a problem for Sprint anytime soon. They have a ton of it and they are not going to have a large enough customer base to stress it for a long time. I will venture to say never, the company as it is will fail before that happens. I have been a Sprint customer for a long time and love the service I get for the price I pay but in the end I think the decision to stick with Wimax is going to kill them.

Be very careful about predicting the future like that. I remember when GSM launched on ATT and we were told that it would be even better than TDMA. It ended up being horrible and having far less penetration. Of course they did the launch in the fall when all the leaves were falling off the trees. The next spring people were calling in thinking that we were having tower issues because after the leaves came back, they couldn't get signal inside their house.
