Ugh seriously.. this is why you have contracts. Also, taking a site down should make him change his mind. I've had to do it to a client. I mean, it's not their property until they pay for it .

Why not replace his site (or all of his banner ads) with your ad for your design services until he decides to pay you.

UPDATE: He called me (about 3:00) and we worked things out.
The threat worked. He still cannot really explain why he was avoiding my calls and emails.
I'm confident I will get the money within a few days.

I'd get him to do a contract as well, something in paper that proves he has to pay up for the rest of the work, if there is more after this payment covers.

This payment will be full payment for everything he owes me to date. The contract we WILL be signing is for future work (designing ads, maintaining the site, etc.)
