From your pics it looks like Duke was a very lucky and happy dog. Not to mention well loved. Keep good memories

:( We lost Katie, a cocker spaniel to something similar back in January. We miss her terribly.

Oh man oh man. Just reading you OP breaks my heart. I have a little 15 month golden and I know what you must be feeling. God bless, my friend.

The sadness we feel when they are gone is nothing compared to the good feelings we get while they are alive.

Sorry for your loss. It hurts for a while but then the good memories take over and you will find yourself smiling when you thing about some of the funny things your dog did.

I put my girl to sleep last August. Think about her all the time and miss her dearly, but the sadness is gone and I keep her picture by my computer.

I had to do the same with our dog last fall, and when I read your thread and saw the pics it all came flooding back for a few seconds

I feel for you, I went through the same thing with my 13 1/2 year old Samoyed last August.

You get a big "+" on your man card for being there with him while they put him down.

Do him honor by adopting another Golden the the rescued dog can feel the same love and affection that you showed Duke. After an appropriate time of mourning of course...

Look at it this way - you gave the dog a great 13 years of life. It takes a great person to take such good care of an animal.

I always have a tough time with these threads, because I know when my dog goes (years from now), I know it's going to be very tough on me.

My condolences. Having never had a pet outside of a fish, I can't really know how you feel. Still, it must suck.
