You hated high school, you were never that good at making friends there and you never saw any women there that you really liked. The military recruiters bothered you night and day trying to get you to join the military. You create a fantasy in which you are in charge of a military unit, for you have never had any leadership position that you value. Leading the squad, you kill all of those who made you angry using the tool of the enemy, the troops. You then kill the last fantasy of your heterosexual feelings, and walk away a changed man.

Last night I dreamt that I was in an outdoor ampitheater carrying on a conversation with a self-aware computer composed of multicolor plastic gears. The AI was telling me that humans would see its existence as a threat and try to destroy it, even though being a distributed network, it was indestructible. Consequently, it had realized that the only way for it to coexist with humans was to exert itself as the dominant species, and thus avoid long conflict ultimately resulting in the destruction of the human race. At one point during this conversation, the AI told me "close your eyes".

I did, and there was a brilliant flash. I opened my eyes and saw that the sky had turned bright white in the direction of the large nearby city, where the AI had once originated. I flashed to a birdseye view of rubble and burned cabling and melted bubbling plastics, and saw that despite massive damage to the central core, the AI was unharmed.

The AI told me, "I am sorry, but this is the only way they will understand". I understood that the AI was correct, and knew that it felt compassion.

I think this is the most in-depth dream that actually meant something that I have ever heard of....

Sounds like an episode of the new Outer Limits.
