I had "flat" water last night.

So this 5 star place I ate at told me me they leaves sparkling water out until it goes flat. This makes sense to me, but googling this I'm not seeing the same definition. Although I'm not finding anything on Google I would exactly take as the truth. Anyone know what the hell I had it?
 
It didn't really taste like sparkling mineral water without the carbonation though. I think it could have been a scam to get me to pay $11 for regular water.

I'm pretty sure that if they charge $11 for water, that anything they sold at this restaurant was a scam.

5 star restaurants are never cheap, you don't go to one for the value. I've been to a bunch and I before I go I already know nothing will be reasonably priced. I'm just curious about this flat water
 
I never heard of flattening carbonated water, but some will sell still(non-carbonated) and sparkling. Maybe you had still.

Water + carbonation = sparkling (carbonated) water. What is the point of creating carbonated water ... only to let it go flat? If you really went to a 5* restaurant perhaps it was to sell it to you at a premium.

I think it still leaves a trace of the CO2 in it, but it's not as fizzy. I've never had it but I hear it still has a slight acidic/sour taste to it without the tingling in your mouth.

It was sparkling mineral water originally, I don't know why they don't just offer mineral water that was never carbonated.

And to the others, it wasn't $11 a glass, when you ordered it you got an entire 750ml bottle. Still expensive, but not $11 a glass bad. I don't think people understand how 5 star places work, $11 a bottle anywhere else would be retarded. But you're eating a $60 steak that doesn't even come with sides. And sides are anywhere from $12 to $35 each so being charged for a bottle of water isn't that crazy.

I'm not sure OP, but to me it sounds like you just paid $11 too much for a glass of water (bad water at that). 🙂

Mastro's, I will say as much as it cost, it was awesome food and everything about that place was super top notch. I was about to put the napkin on my lap and my server said "here's a black one, so you don't get white fibers on your black suit" I'd never have even thought about a detail that small.
