I had the surgury @ 8:15am on Fri. I felt NO pain or discomfort at all during the whole process and most of yesterdaty, but for the last 12 or so hours my nut have swollen to the size of a softball and are bruised and tender. It feels like the pain you get about 15 seconds after being kicked in the nads. I just took 2 of the Percocet the doctor perscribes me and washed then down with 2 Heineken's, feel no pain now. All in all I'm happy I got it done, now I can have all the unprotected sex I want (with my wife) and not have to worry about her forgetting to take her birth contral pills. I love my 2 kids but I don't want any more.

Wow, well glad everything went well. Never really understood this procedure. Did you get 'snipped' or am I way off? Without going into much detail, what is it?

IIRC you get the "wire" chopped.

I had whats called a no scaple vascetomy. Here's a quick explaination of what he did. First he cleaned mr gential ares with idione (sp) and put a drape type dressing the only my nads showed tru. He stuck a needle in my nads to numb the. I felt a slight pinch but thats it, you can pinch the skin on your nuts and it doesn't really hurt. he then used a pair of scissors to cut about a 1/2 inch cut in the center of my balls, he pulled out each tube and cut about 1/2 of and inch out and burned the ends. He did both tubes from the same incision and the whole process took about 30 minutes including the prep time. I'm the biggest pussy when it comes to pain but I can say I felt nothing during the whole process.

Um...if your nad is the size of a softball, that is not a 'normal' post-vasectomy thing. It could mean you have a leaking blood vessel in there. Slightly swollen, 10 or 20 percent of normal, is acceptable but significantly swollen is not a good thing.

Well there are more issues than just getting the two ends back together. After a few months post-vasectomy, your body starts to develop antibodies against your own sperm 'stem' cells, those cells that are not yet fully developed (stem cell isn't the correct term, I forget the real name for them).

So the longer you have had a vasectomy, the less likely you will have any viable sperm to contribute. After 15 years, it isn't likely you'll have any viable little men being produced anymore. It varies from case to case. Some guys still have viable sperm after 15 years, but they are the exception.

I, too, had it done a year or so ago. Listen to your doctor and ice 'em down. I wasn't perscribed any pain meds and didn't realy need any either. I just used lots of ice to keep the swelling down. That and tight undies or a jock strap. :) If you don't keep em secure, then you get pain as well. Feels like you have a bowling ball atacthed to them until they heal.

As far as sex goes, the pamphlet they had me read said that you shouldn't have sex for 24 hours after the surgery. I laughed my arse off at that one. The boys really hurt when they get bounced around for about a week or two, I couldn't imagine anyone actually having sex unless they are really into pain.

As far as getting it done then undone later, the odds aren't very good of being able to have kids like Tcsecenter said. Also I don't think they'll even do one on someone who is 20. You have to go in for a consoltation before the surgery and they ask you all kinds of questions to evaluate your mental state and such. I also had to get written permission from my wife at the time to get it done. I found that rather odd and a bit wrong but she was for it as well. Two kids and didn't and didn't want any more.

For those thinking of it, the pain (more like discomfort than actuall pain) is gone in about two weeks or so and after a month you'll be your old self again but onl;y with your troops never being able to leave the barracks.

sweet... congrats! that's my plan (for when i'm really old... like 35 )

Um, thanks gopunk. Geesh, I guess I shouldn't of had it done when I was just "middle-aged" at 28. :)

I don't regret having it done, but I'd never go through that pain AGAIN. I broke the rail of the table I was laying on during the first snip and warned the doctor that I would kill him and his next 3 generations if he inflicted that much pain on the second snip. (Air Force doctors seem to understand Army grunts better when it is put in those terms. ) The double dose of Valuum had no affect on me, nor did the lanacane or the percocet prescribed for me after the procedure. Ice was my best friend. I secured an ice pack in my jock strap for 24 hours straight after I was snipped.

yes, ice and and a jockstrap did the trick for me. the doctor did inform you that you still have live sperm correct? my doctor told me to have sex at least 15 times in two weeks (before my return visit) to make sure I got rid of all the live sperm...best two weeks of my life.
