I had a napster-like experience with BearShare today

After failing w/ AudioGalaxy, WinMX, Kazaa(partially), and DirectConnect, I reluctantly downloaded BearShare which is a gnutella client (read decentralized and a pain in the a$$ for the RIAA). The last time I had used gnutella, it was excruciatingly and painfully slow. Well if today is any indication, things have changed. Choices 'o plenty and fast d/l's. Very nice interface and the closest I've felt to the great days of the nap. Just thought I'd pass this happy experience on to any other frustrated p2p'ers out there...so when all else fails, give gnutella/bearshare a try...you might be very surprised.

by the way, I was searching for Blackalicious which is one of the best things I've heard come out of the hip hop world in awhile

Don't forget, the RIAA is out looking for people to drag into court. :(

Yes your honor this college student who survives on ramen noodles because he can't afford anything else is who we are suing.

While I'm not sure about your taste in music, I've used recent versions of Bearshare and had good luck. It's excellent for downloading mp3s and other relatively small files. Not so good for movies, but the multi-source downloading may help that. The longer it's out, the more likely we'll see more large-file content out there.

Just to clarify, this is correct, your luck w/ non mp3 files may vary, although Kazaa and DirectConnect seem to always come through for me in that case. Also, I'm using BearShare 4.0.0. I'm hopeful we'll have increased usage as well. As for my taste in music, well, if you ride in my car, you'll understand my sig:)

I had some trouble getting 3.0 to work so I went back to 2.6.3 and have never had any problems. I hope that by 3.1 all will be well in the 3 edition.

it didn't find any spyware, just choose not to install the extra stuff it offers during installation...

thx for checking--i haven't put in the latest updates for ad-aware yet...hopefully this is true-and i did only install the app but you need to make sure to uncheck all the other crap. But I'm really diggin this app--I really like the way it keeps all your searches catalogued and updates them as new files are added....

CSMOOTH-just skip 3 all together and get the latest 4.0 - its great-I'm still really impressed at how far gnutella has come since that guy at aol let the code out the door.

also, another thing that may improve you experience is when searching for mp3's search for "everything" so you get mp3 and audio categories..
