I tried to thank the doctor and he acted like it was no big deal. 🙂 He said, I can't fix a computer and you can't fix a heart, it is just my job, but I still wouln't go fir it and gave him my thanks any way. 😀

I am 40 years old, diabetic and overweight, but not obese. I am working to bring down the weight.

I DID NOT LOSE MY FOOT. Seriously, there have been 2 miracles happen in my life the last 2 years.

sad part its not just people who are over weight and eat a lot of fried food. My Brother-in-laws nephew had to have a double bypass when h e was 32 adn he was in really good shape. worked out a lot (was a EMT) and ran.

No, God gave him a reason to pass on his sedentary lifestyle and poor judgment, even knowing his heart condition was genetic.
 
Wow that was a close call OP. Glad you're better.

My mom (84 yrs) had to undergo triple bypass Sept 2007 after her feet began to swell. Had all the blood test/stress test, etc done. She was given a long list of food to avoid/cut down on. Was offered to undergo 2 months cardiac rehab, but quit after a few days. Lots of medicine to take too. Most of the $$$ was paid for by medicare/medicaid.

Male cousin (45 yrs) had to undergo quad bypass Oct 2007 after feeling week/exhausted. That really shook him up, he was worried about the outcome (death). Googling the hospital showed that it is one of the top cardiac centers in California and doctors were topnotch. reassured him that he will get the best treatment possible. Stopped smoking prior to the operation and has to watch what he is eating. He is slightly overweight (not fat).

BTW, heart disease runs in the family. So I'm just crossing my fingers.

You can't run and diet your way out of blocked arteries, once they're already blocked. They don't do bypass surgery on arteries that might become blocked in a few years. Moron.

I agree that's a bit much. However nurses spend so much time around death and suffering that they either quit or build up an immunity and usually a dark sense of humour about it. I'm sure they didn't even think about it when they were telling here, though they should have been more empathic.
 
Hey Bamavoo, sucks you had to go through this. You're still here today with that second chance, best of luck.

Any tips or experiences you want to share with anyone else? Foods, routine exercise or consumables that you think might've contributed to the cause, help any readers get an early grasp on their habits.
 
yeah god saved you, not the doctors

glad you made it through, but if you're going to credit God for it, i would suggest faith healing next time something major like this comes up
 
I was stunned when my brother in law who is 52, 5" 8' and ~140lbs had a heart attack. He lives a very stressful life which might have been his main problem. Good luck might be time to quit the rat race.

Glad it worked out for you. I had a mitral valve repair at 35 that went bad two days later and my lungs started filling up with fluid. Terrible feeling not being able to breathe right. Had to go back into surgery and they put in an artificial valve. I was also close to not making it so know what that is like. I also thank God that he decided I need to stay here awhile longer. It it pretty sad that people feel the need to ridicule someone if they want to believe in God. Of course without the Doctors we would not have made it. Some people have faith, some don't. To each his own.

Trust me, bro. It doesn't get any better on its own and just gets worse until you take action. You just keep saying to yourself, "I'm still young, I got time to get back in shape, too many things going on right now, but when things settle down, I'm gonna do it."

Next year, "I'm still young, I got time to get back in shape, too many things going on right now..."

And the year after that, so on and so forth, until you are in the cardiologist's office listening to the news and thinking "God damn, where did the time go?"

Or worse. Not everyone has a big scare and gets a second chance. Some have the big scare and are dead.

They gave me medicine for my vomiting and suggested I go to the hospital as it could be a blood clot in my lungs as I was short of brathe as well or Pneumonia. As they were getting me ready for CT Scan they ran some blood tests and saw that my heart enzymes were at 33 and should be between 0.3 and 1.3. They sent me up for an arteriogram and found I needed the 5 bypasses. I was out for over 4 days and didn't know what was actually done to me until the 5th day. Most of this is genetics and the other part of course was diet and lack of exercise. I am now watching what I eat and I am walking everyday. I will start cardiac rehab in acouple of weeks that will be a 3 times a week program for 36 sessions. I will then join a gym and continue to work out. This has been a life changing experience for sure. Once I was through the surgery and in my own room the nurse told my wife at one point my body was trying to die. That is why they had to use the balloon to keep my heart pumping and they kept me asleep for so long.


I thank God for allowing me more time on this earth with my wife and kids and I know he has a purpose for me. This is the second year in a row I have lived through something tragic. Last year I had staph and strep infection in my foot that was spreading quckly and it is now helaed, actully the surgeon relaeased me from my foot the Friday before I had a heart attack on Sunday.

Why are you thanking god? 😕 You should really be thanking the surgeons who operated on you.

My Dad had a quintuple bypass about 4 years ago and did absolutely nothing to change his life. He then had a couple strokes, a valve replaced, and almost died this year due to complications from type 2 diabetes...he will turn 66 in a couple of days. Maybe God just likes my Dad...or maybe he just likes torturing him. Too close to call really.
