Good. I will trash CA to the end if I have to. My parents moved out in 90 and haven't looked back since. What's the point of struggling to survive out there with traffic also if you could do better/cheaper some place else? CA can lick my chode because that's one state where no one knows what is going on. I prefer a more laid back lifestyle. Geez, people here leave their garage doors open and their doors unlocked. Would you find that out there? NOPE! Deadbolt? Heh, nope. Doesn't mean it couldn't happen, just far less likely than out there. I do not miss bumper to bumper traffic for 6 miles at all. I do not miss the state paying out IOUs. I do not miss a drought because CA was originally a desert. Okay, so you got beaches, big deal IMO. You know what? We in the midwest can buy midgrade gasoline for less then $1.40 a gallon thanks to ethanol and the great ag. setup that's going on here. Also, there's plenty of rain, so no one is watching our water consumption. You want steaks and pork? Heh, got you covered. Inch thick all the way around and as fresh as it gets. The fish isn't as good and sometimes the produce is lacking, but have you ever had fresh corn on the cob? Can't beat it with a stick

Aside from the gas, you just described my NorCal home. Plus, I bet you can't go to the farmer's market downtown and buy ACTUAL ripe fruit (grocery store fruit is far from counting) that was picked in the past week, and take your choice of the varieties.

Plus, NorCal was not a desert in any recent past, and SoCal gets all their water from us.

(security system, metal core doors, bulletproof windows, iron bars over windows... i mean a LOT of improvements...)
And it took getting shot to realize it was time to move?! What happend with getting shot? Glad you didn't die 😛

see what i mean about stereotypes?

i wanna get shot but live to talk about it.
i wanna say to my friends that i have been shot but survived.

Getting shot is not a negative thing but a positive thing...not everyone gets shot
i have never experienced getting shot or stabbed but one day i hope i do.

but moving out of LA is a good thing..that place is nuts..ive been there once and when i was there i heard gunshots every 5 minutes. not my style but whatever floats your boat.

Hey man I lived it. I worked the beat for three years back in the mid 90's. I got shot on two separate occasions and nearly didn't make it through the second. A .357 slug got under my vest and me up in ICU for 10 days. My partner wasn't so lucky. I seen kids killed - good kids. I've seen families broken apart by the violence and futures dashed on a bloody sidewalk. It got to me after a while and I could feel myself starting to not care anymore. I knew it was time to get out.

Just don't leave the urbanized areas. 🙂

Huntsville, Birmingham, Montgomery, etc... really aren't that bad. As much as I hate Alabama, I actually like Huntsville...too bad I'm stuck in Auburn for another year. 🙂

Walleye is fvcking GANGSTER.
BTW, I love LA, also. Cultural melting pot. I just visited Leimert Park not too long ago. Great area.

Hot Chic, you got me. I always forget about northern California. It's like two different states. People in the south are all sorts of wacked out.
As for Alabama, no thanks. I lived in the bible belt (southern baptists) and those people scare me. We won't get into what zealots they are here.
As for where I'm at now (Iowa, okay start cracking your jokes...) I'm not here by choice per se, but the cost of living is great. My parents got a pamphlet on living costs in different areas. To move from IA to Silicon Valley, you needed to take what you were spending and tack another 400-some odd percent on top of that. My uncle was a home appraiser and I went with him to this dump of a house (tall dead weeds for a yard, rusty pipes, house was wrecked, oh and it was next to the freeway) and the place appraised for $95k as is. I will say I do miss decent Mexican food. They throw some stuff on a tortilla here and call it that, but I know better

Don't we get most from Colorado? I know we get a lot from them.

well, several events happened in the last year, telling us to get the hell out of LA...

the most notable was that i was shot about a week ago... in the arm, right below the shoulder... right arm 😛

kinda sad that we have to sell this house. i love it... did lots of custom work on it...

ok..time to round up the usual suspects..Mercenary4Hire..ok suspect 😉 🙂 p)

It's actually kind of a sad commentary when stuff like this is called 'improvements'.
but i did a LOT of functional improvements to the house... (security system, metal core doors, bulletproof windows, iron bars over windows... i mean a LOT of improvements...)
