For several days (until ~2 days ago) I saw random black ants (probably sugar ants) in various locations in my kitchen. That's happened to me many times in the past. This time I killed them one by one (saw no ant trails, no marching armies), planned actions to prevent a full scale invasion. Looked but couldn't see a place where they were coming in. Decided to buy Grants ant stakes and place them in several locations outside the house near the kitchen. Well, they've disappeared. I guess they couldn't find any significant food sources. I did remove bottles of syrup, molasses and honey to a different room, didn't want to give them a "sniff."

I just sprinkle cocaine around my room to have them OD.

Last time I had ants I set fire to the kitchen. No more ant problem. But of course State Farm wouldn't pay my claim.

Ants are surprising vulnerable to being sprayed with 409. Kills them dead, albeit slowly.

They are simply massing for an all-out assault on your living space.

By killing their scouts, you have sent the message that you have something worth taking...and take it they will.

Estimates suggest that there are about one million ants for every single person on earth.

In other words, if the number of ants in the world was rounded up, divided and parceled out to every man, woman and child on the planet, you personally would stand to receive a number in excess of one million -- and so would every one of your friends and family members.

The ants always come in when it's very wet outside, and leave when it dries out. We have an arrangement, it seems. They use my house to shelter from bad weather.

Wow. I'm really glad they cleared up the highly abstract concept of "one million ants for every single person".

1 part powdered sugar, 1 part baking soda. Mix it up and leave it in a few high traffic areas. Ant problem goes away in a few days.

Great advice.

If you are killing mounds in your yard the best solution is two bottles of club soda per mound. Kills them better than any poison via suffocation.

Well according to this it's "1.5 mg (= 0.0000033069 lbs.) average weight of an ant," and I figure if there are 1 million ants/person, and the average person weighs, say, 145 pounds, the human race outweighs them by around 45:1. They don't stand a chance. They can come out with their hands up!

My dad puts this gel in his kitchen whenever he spots ants. They take this gel back to their home and it kills the colony.

They learn. I had bait that was working well for awhile, but they quit eating it. I haven't gotten my ants yet this year. I have some boric aid I'm gonna use to make treats for them if they show up.

I just wish they weren't such assholes, and only stuck with the stuff I dropped. I could happily live with them in that case. When they start getting into my closeted food is when I start having a problem.

Ah. I'll pass the news to my father. I was working on my laptop last week and a few ants were walking on my screen. The thing is I was in the dining area and the ants made it from the kitchen. That's quite a long distance for an ant. They also had to climb up the table's leg. Not an easy feat.

one time in elementary school, i took cookies to lunch.

took a bite and noticed there were ants on it.

those fuckers were everywhere in my house for a few years, until they disappeared on their own for some reason.
