I guess cops need to really meet quotas now....

Though the Davises live about 30 miles away in Dracut, Jennifer Davis, 38, wanted to have her baby at Mount Auburn, where she had also given birth to her 7-year-old son, Brendan.

"For 10 months we had been saying, 'As long as I don't go into labor during rush hour' - which we did," said Davis, a social worker for a visiting nurse group affiliated with the hospital.

Not defending the cop here, but epic fucking fail on the couple's part.

I agree, however, the cop is still a flaming douchebag who will feel karma someday.

Why is it a fail. Maybe that hospital is better then the other ones around. Not all hospitals are grade A.

yeah....I think that since they lived in dracut, they would have ended up in a Lowell hospital ( I do not think Dracut has a hospital)....From a person who grew up in Lowell....I do not blame them....the hospitals there suck.

Screw them. The cop offered twice to call an ambulance and they refused. They also could have called an ambulance(knowing it was rush hour) when her contractions started. If they had gotten into an accident, who would they have blamed and probably sued?

While it seems the cop is a bit of a dick for doing that, I think it was mostly fail on the part of the couple.

Everyone knows I normally side with the people.

In this case the people thought their shit don't stink.

Not only do they deserve the $100 ticket but the husband should be forced to do community service for being an asshole.

Yep, call an ambulance.

Agreed. People drive in the breakdown lanes all the time when they aren't supposed to and it's pretty damn dangerous. If they wanted to deliver there, they should have gone to Boston a day early OR should have called a damn ambulance and paid for it. Trying to drive 30 miles in rush hour traffic is really, really stupid.

Plus, for people who aren't quite aware of how dumb this couple is, here's a map:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=...0.293008,0.578156&z=11

Let's just say that Route 3 and Route 2 are probably two of the worst places to be any time during rush hour.

Mt Auburn is a great hospital. I can see why they wanted to go there.

I love how it was 5 hours later too. Really needed to use the breakdown lane lol.

Some Maxima went weaving through traffic like I've never seen before in my life the other night... aggressive x10... he had his hazards on and I could only assume he had to hit the hospital... he did exit near one. I could only imagine doing the same thing if I were in such a situation. The break-down lane included. But I don't know about going to a hospital 30 miles away... you gotta plan that - 5 mins apart is way late already.

Gotta love cops. Or not.

You have no way of knowing how long it's going to be before the baby comes. Far better to get to the hospital ASAP than to jsut assume you have plenty of time. Especially when it's the 2nd or later child, they can come out very quickly.

I wish there was a special service someone could call in those situations. One that could arrive in a few minutes and get you to a hospital quickly and safely.

I love how people are able to predict exactly when they will go into labor and exactly how long it will last... Oh wait, even doctors aren't able to tell you that. I imagine the woman realized she was going into labor when her water broke, which is pretty much the best signal someone has. You don't just say, "Well, honey, I'm going to go into labor tomorrow, so let's get on the road tonight to make sure we get there in time." And she had no idea whether that labor would take 2 hours or 20. Birth is hardly an exact science; it can't be planned for the same way other medical procedures can be.

Good lord...

The stupidity is strong in that bolded part. Relearn the birthing process you should.

Man... predicting the birth date of the baby would completely destroy office pools on when a baby would be born.

A service that will deliver you to the NEAREST hospital. Not the Hospital of your choosing. Some hospitals are better than others and typically everyone in the area knows when a hopital is bad.

Yep.. let me write a check for that $158 ticket I got for recklessly blowing through a stop sign... on a bicycle...
