I graduated from OCS yesterday!

Yesterday was a real special day for me and I just wanted to share it here. Let me tell you, Navy OCS is no joke because of guys like this. I had a great time there and I got my butt kicked into shape. The discipline you learn there is also amazing. If anyone has considered joining the military or is curious let me know...there is a lot I can't talk about but I can try. Anyways, I'm rather excited and I just wanted to share.

You joined the right branch of the military, given our current situation

He looks like a genuine hardass. I didn't know we had Airborne Marines.

Congratulations and thank you.

He is a scout sniper...went into Iraq as a platoon sergeant (I think), was meritoriously promoted and went to OCS to make my life hell. 😉

Congrats on getting into the nuke school. From what i've read, in the past each applicant was screened up the wazoo. Mucho gracias mi amigo.

Congrats! I commissioned as a 2lt in the AF last year. Officer life is nice and political!

I've given thought to that as well (as I've said on here). Trying out civilian life for a few years, seeing if I could get some money saved before I go for law school.

can you provide a link to how much the different levels of officers make? if the salary is better than the private sector (i'm a chemist), i might consider it.

I had a college friend who spent his naval career on an ohio class sub. He was a total freak with MANY weird stories to tell. Good luck 😉 😀

Do junior officers on subs get their own cabins?

Here is basic Pay chart:

http://www.dfas.mil/money/milpay/pay/paytable2005.pdf

Then you have to add in BAS (Food Allowance) (Not taxable)

185.00 a month for Officers * 12 = 2200

Then you have to add in BAH (Housing) (Not taxable)

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://secureapp2.hqda.pentagon.mil/perdiem/bah.html">https://secureapp2.hqda.pen......l/perdiem/bah.html</a>

Enter Zip code where you want to compare and then enter O-1 as rank

Add this all together and multiply by 12. *Edit* add 185 for BAS not the 2200 for year!

Don't forget though, your only taxable income is basic pay. You don't get taxed on the rest!

Basic Pay Chart

Looks like a brand new Ensign gets $2343 a month, plus Subsistence ($184) and Housing (depends on your location), which are not taxed. I think my BAH for Charleston is about $940.

Congratulations! That's plenty to be proud of.

None of it's about money, but I suppose you could throw a couple hundred fake dollars per month into these figures for the medical/dental/vision insurance you don't have to pay for.

Good luck in Charleston. No doubt the folks there spend a good number of their weekends in Savannah. Should be a good time.

I believe it's possible I've seen GySgt Hecht before. The UN medal (ribbon) on the bottom row is probably for Somalia. Probably was on the same MEU for that float. He does look hard.

Congratulations, once again!

which community are you headed to? surface/aviation/subs

Subs...gotta go to Nuke Power School in Charleston first.

excellent choice, you'll get to be the Div. Off. for one of the nuke division first, they know how to work in new ensign's 😉

back in the day every officer going into nuclear power had to interview with Rickover himself. i heard lots of whacked stories about those interviews

the JO's on Tridents were 2 per room

better than the 9 per room us enlisted guys had 😉
