I got the shakes.

Just to verify, did it work at all at one time and now it does not work?
Is it happening on any movie or just one certain one.
What DVD player software are you using?
Do you happen to notice if you can hear the drive constantly spinning up and down?(varying greatly in speed)

This is a new install of a Benq DVD burner. It occurs in all movies. I'm usind NERO 6 (Show Time) It appears to run continuesly.

Do you have a lot of stuff running in the background? turn off unnecessary apps in your task bar. At your own risk, turning off things like One Access Virus scanning should improve speed.

Also, the DVD player is probably IDE... If its on the same ribbon as the Hard Drive your operating system is on, they're both competing for its use. I would put the DVD on the Secondary IDE and the HD on the Primary. That way they can communicate simultaneously.

Value Ram... tsk tsk.

Thanks....Ihave tried removing all TSR's but no luck, however you are right about the IDE cable. When I get time this weekend I'll have to crack it open and give that a shot.

Make sure DMA is enabled. It could be the ide controller, I had that same problem once when I had the dvd drive hooked up to a hpt366 controller.

Nope, HD is running solo on primary PATA. DVD is master of the secondary with a CD/RW as a slave. (gee, I love all this sex talk)😉
Both optical drives are set to "DMA,if availabl", however transfer mode is greyed out and says"PIO mode" Is it possible this drive is not capable of DMA mode?😕
