I have about a dozen books yet to read and then I'll pick up those. Ehrman's seems the most intriguing. Listening to him explain how the Bible was pieced together and that the Gospels were not written by Matthew, Mark, Luke, nor John but, rather, attributed to them makes one realize the Bible was written by men. It was not "the word of God". It was men's interpretations of events and teachings.

I feel the Bible was definitely written by man, but we'll never know. I know many religious people including a Rabbi that believes the Bible was written by men. Its a big storybook. Whether thats a bad or a good thing, is up to you.

Bingo!

It's the teachings elicited by the Bible that are meant to be the word of God...not the words and the details therein.

Jesus was nothing more than a mere preacher. He was a man as much as I am. There was no "immaculate conception"...that's just a mistranslation from ancient texts mentioning Mary was a young maiden.

For all his infinite love he shows these tongue speaking people, think of the other 5 billion people on earth who aren't christian that are going to suffer forever.

God insured that everyone on this planet can recieve grace if they want. The death and resurrection of Christ once and for all removed the penalty of sin from mankind, which is eternal seperation from God. So man can either do one of two things. Accept Christ and partake of the Kingdom of God or reject Christ and recieve the do penalty. The reality is you will judge yourself. So if you suffer it will be because you chose too.

Uh, what if you were a native American or Australian before 1492 or lived in inner New Guinea before 1930?

Because Jesus is the almighty, right? You do not have to accept Christ to become a part of God's kingdom. How did Jesus remove the penalty of sin? What makes you so sure of this. Because some man wrote it down?

The original scriptures which were written in Greek and Hebrew have been translated 100s of times, by different scholars all around the world, and throughout the centuries. And it has beeen translated almost identically everytime. So your theory of mistranslation is completely wrong.

Romans 2:12-15 says those who don't have the law will be law unto themselves. God will judge them by their conscience. It states those who do the things contained in the law without hearing it will either excuse themselves or accuse themselves.

What about the "Wicked Bible" of 1631 which printed the commandment ?Thou shalt commit adultery??

More to the point, what about the translation issues between "thou shalt not kill", "you should not commit murder" or young maiden/virgin? There are more serious issues, but those are the most common ones I see people today notice when they read two different English translations.

That is not true. Many scholars of the Bible will admit that many words could be wrong, and it could completely change the whole idea of the passage. Not only has it been translated many times, many people have felt it to mean different things. Mistranslation can definitely be a problem concerning the bible.

You and every person on this planet is a 3 part being. You have a body, a soul (which is your mind, will, and emotions), and a spirit. Since the fall of man every person born into this world when they commit the first willful sin, their spirit dies or loses contact with the God. That is the penalty of sin. Thats the reason Satan was kicked out of heaven. But God is holy, sin can not remain in his presence. Only a sacrafice which is the spilling of blood and cleanse man from the sins. The old testament is where they practice ritual sacrafices. But God purposed Jesus to come and be the ultimate sacrafice. His blood spilled once perpetually covers and cleans man of his sin before God. Thats why Christians who accept Christ only have to ask for forgiveness in Jesus name. But when you accept Christ your spirit man is born again. Not your body or your mind. You keep your body under control and renew your mind with the word of God. So yes Jesus is almighty. 🙂

I didn't say Jesus didn't exist. I'm sure he did. He was a man who did good things for people. But he is not the son of God. You being a Jew should know and believe that.

Scholars are constantly learning. I would like to see a direct comparison between the first translation and the most recent. I bet you'd be shocked at the differences.

BTW, your comment:
God insured that everyone on this planet can recieve grace if they want.
Did he use Geico or AllState?

Historical evidence for Jesus is marginal compared to that for supposed contemporaries like Octavian Caesar, much less George Washington.

I don't bow down to George Washington and say he's the son of God. To me, it doesn't matter if GW existed or didn't. But there is historical backing that proves that GW did exist. At least we have paintings and writings of GW. With Jesus we have nothing of that. All we have is words in a book, written by man

Ah sorry but your wrong. I may be mistaken but I think its been translated almost 500 different times by scholars from different countries around the world. And almost without fail it is translated almost the same. The differences you speak of are where words are used to explain the meaning.

Example

In the New King James Version

Eph 3:20 which he worked in Christ when he rasied him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

Original King James Version

Eph 3:20 which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

Same scripture with the same meaning, but the use of words working and seated instead of wrought and set, make it a little easier to understand for those of us who speak american english. But the context is the same.

I'm not arguing Jesus with you. I believe Jesus existed. This has nothing to do with who or what you worship. I was just trying to show that you believe what you're told also. It seems I opened the wrong can of worms. 🙂
