I went up and talked to the girl at the courthouse and I wasn't even supposed to be there. While I was there she asked if I really wanted to do this and I said no and she was like well I tell you what, I will defer it until November since the service is only 2 weeks then and you possibly won't even get called..

I got called for jury duty. They canceled it because I was leaving for college like a week before I was supposed to show :).

Is it odd that I'm 30 years old and have never been called for jury duty? I have changed counties where I live 3 times, maybe that had something to do with it?

Two weeks???

The time's I've been called for jury duty it's been one day or one trial.

So you go sit in the juror pool for one day, if selected you sit on one trial for it's duration, if not you go home at the end of the day, after that you can't be called for another 12 months.

here it's two weeks also, but you show up monday whole day and if you don't get picked you come back the next monday and if you don't get picked you did your two weeks. but if you get picked first week, most trials 2-3 days you do that then you come back next monday and if you get picked again another 2-3 days and you do your two weeks time :( sucks alot, i got selected once, but did not make the final cut by one person. had to come back next week and they did not call me so i went home early hehe.

Man, I loved jury duty, of course back then I was 16 and making min wage at subway so it was actually a pay increase! Seriously though, I prayed for a murder case or something juicy. I met some interesting people and even got interviewed for the news.

The lawyers picking jurors didn't like me I think because I had long hair at the time. This one girl (I guess she was 29/30 at the time) kept staring at me the WHOLE time though and she finally asked me out as I hurridley walked through the parking garage on the last day (she actually ran after me!). I would have said yes but she was balder than george from seinfeld and had a comb over worse than trump.....yeah, I know thats wrong, but uhuhuhuhu!

I did finally get picked for a dui case where the guy hit another car (minor damage). He was clearly guilty (hell, he showed up all three days drunker than hell), but the blood sample taked to test his BAC was kept in the arresting troopers cooler in his car and back bedroom for 3 months before being tested. I'm not sure HTF that happened, or how they could even test it after that long, but they did.

I wanted to say not guilty because of that, but everything else pointed towards him being guilty so.....

I wish I had jury duty. It seems like it would be entertaining. Plus, as a salaried person for a good company, I'd get double pay and a day off work.

If you're counting the jury duty pay as the double of double pay you're in for a shock. They only pay like $12 per day.

Ok, it isn't really double pay. But here, it is $40/day and they pay quite a bit for mileage and parking. So maybe, $45 a day once it is all said and done because I have a cheap to use/maintain vehicle. That is still a nice little bonus for a day off work.

No, you don't. I'm not a registered voter and I get called for jury duty every year

Different counties have different processes...some only use voter rolls, some use property tax records, some may use other lists (vehicle registrations?).

We've been over this (rather extensively) previously here at ATOT.

There is a continually growing list of states that now use driver's registration databases to get jury lists, rather than voter registration.

Jury duty is *not* a valid reason to skip registering to vote (at least it isn't any more).

<edit>

Doh. Signed the message w/ the sig I use when working on voter registration. :p

The day off work maybe... but what I was paid for the 4 days I served on my last trial barely covered lunch and parking.

I told them I'd be happy to serve but I consider myself prejudicial against the defendant. They never bothered me again.
