I got one of those mini-CDs today

An advertiser gave me one of those little Mini-CDs today, pretty cool. I'd like to make some...can I burn them with a regular CDRW?

Yea, I burn with those mini stuff with my regular ol ide tdk burner all the time. I'm just looking for some of those little ones with rewrite capabilities.

Not much at all... I remember once my friends and I were at Fry's and we were like, 3 songs per disc (15 minutes)?! .... check out my collection of the Rolling Stones (pulls out file cabinet)

The 3" CDR's hold 185 megs, the business cards hold 51 megs. Keep in mind that the majority of a CD's capacity is in the outermost tracks, since the data path gets longer the further from the center you go.

around 200 MB. Its around 21 or so minutes so do the math. These are the round ones BTW. don't know about the business card type.

What a rip! It costs 3x as much as a regular CDR and only holds 1/4 of it! Blech. It's a good marketing tool (the one I got had a small flash anim. on it) but not for practical use...

No, they aren't for practical use.

As the radius of the recording surface increases, the data storage ability increases exponentially (storage area = pi*r^2 - pi*(inside radius of recording area)^2).

While cool, small CDR's are not nearly as useful as their 650/700 MB counterparts.

Down side to the mini-CDs:

1) They obviously don't hold as much information as the normal sized CDs.
2) They will NOT work with slot loading drives. 🙁

Actually, thats a lie, they will, but you need some sort of holder to put them in that makes them the same size as a normal CD in order to work.

How many people have that holder, though? I've never heard of one, let alone own one.

Standard CDR's are universally compatible, but those 3" mini's would be awfully cool.

😀

but with respect to sony's cameras, they are cheaper than compact flash.

Very true. Some people bitch about the fact that the media isn't reusable, but for the cost of one large CF card you can buy HUNDREDS of CDR's @ 185 MB apiece.

Plus, who doesn't like a permanent copy of their pictures?

Most of my friends just send their pics from their smart media cards to their computer only to burn them to CD anyways.

This just saves a step.

Actually I could see where that business card cd would come in handy. With 51 megs you could give allot of info about yourself/company by handing those out.

i have some of these 21 min cd-r's and they work fine in my pioneer car cd player...
