This is for his Chrismas present. And I ran out of idea...so I got this sword for him. (not that particular auction...but the same item)
I paid 15.95 + 19.95 + 1 for it.

I know this is for display only.... but do you think this is a good deal and if I gave this to you that you would love it?

Thanks to hammer for the idea. :)

Looks like the sword for the MaCloud clan. Though there's was more bigger and had more steel. I seen a sword liek that before I think it was made in Pakistan.

I'd look into a more authentic sword, like a Highlander sword from Here! I'd think you'd get soem good swrod idead. I prefer Mythos' sword though.

I can pick up the standard claymore for under $30 then again I am also involved in the Renn Faires... also it depends.. if the sword is made in china or india it is very LOW quality.... You didn't get screwed but you can get better deals... I have about 7 swords and I got really screwed on the first 2 that I bought and after that I learned.. from then on I paid no more than $30 and they are battle worthy so I'm happy...

Claymores were pretty common in Scotland. I don't know if any clans ever had their own specific swords the way they did with tartans. It's Macleod, btw.

I'm not sure what you mean by "authentic" b/c the stuff you find on that site is still just decorative, modern creations. When I think authentic I'm thinking a sabre actually carried by a soldier, or something with real historic value, not just something sold just because.

I'm not big into swords, and it wouldn't really fit in with the Fish/Ocean/Asian decor of my apartment, but it's still pretty cool. I'd not complain if someone gave me one.

if you sharpen it... you can use it as home protection in additon to your gun.

hmmm, i guess only role playing gamers would enjoy this gift. There's a flood of good priced swords like this on ebay recently... must be the christmas rush. There are some good looking katana/wakisashi/tanto sets.

Spear were the most common... Sword were unbelieveably expensive to make unless the King wanted some of his army to have some.... Also around the 1st century BC When ever a scot found a sword on a dead man they usually ritualistically distroyed it because the "Magic" wasn't strong and it oblivously cursed the user and he died...

I've been to Pennsic before since I'm close to PA right now. It's like Burningman except it's not as dry and people only get naked in their own tent.

For me, a sword would be a cool gift. Decorative swords hanging in my office would be pretty neat.

That way if somebody came in and started talking business while I was busy surfing ATOT, I could cut em down. ;)

There are a lot of knife shops in TN for some reason. I assume the buyer bought it from one of them and ended up realizing they couldn't use it for anything but show... (or ran out of enemies) Good buy, but $20 is the market price for the Claymore at http://www.eknifeworks.com/. You can check them on shipping info....I have no idea what it would cost to ship a sword considering it's probably heavy.

Interesting, I just got a Naval Officer's dress sword last night.

That doesn't count. You had to earn that in mortal combat with it's previous owner. We're talking about buying a gift here.
