Me too. I've been in like 6 accidents (only one when I was at the wheel). Not so much as even a scratch in any of them...but I was wearing a seatbelt and so were all of the passengers in all cases; not wearing a seatbelt is just fvcking dumb. Its even more idiotic than people who start smoking now...at least with smoking you can pretend you're cool or you like the buzz, but with not wearing a seatbelt...why why why?!

From a person who always wears his seat belt. I think the law requiring seat belts is stupid, eventually I hope is goes the way of the motorcycle helmet laws. If a person wants to risk his life, let him. The insurance cost argument is weak, the companies plan for the occasional high expense and budget for it, if they had to go raising rates every time someone had a severe injury there's a severe management problem to say the least. The motorcycle helmet laws met violent opposition, and many are now repealed. Of course the majority of bikers wear helmets (experience talking here), but the idea of the government forcing helmet use is anathema. So basically, while I think that everyone ought to wear seat belts, I also think the seat belt law is around expressly for the purpose of generating revenue regardless of what people may say. Just make sure that if you don't wear a seat belt (or a helmet if on a motorcycle) you have checked the box for organ donor.

Zenmervolt-

Your argument only works if we have separate insurance for those who wear seat belts and those who don't. I believe that smokers have to pay higher health/life insurance.

It would be fine with me as long as those who don't wear seat belts will admit it and pay higher insurance rates.

Why should I pay higher car and health insurance rates for those idiots?

You didn't have it on and he gave you a ticket for it?! Something wrong with that?! He shouldn't have?! What makes you special?!

Laws, no matter how stupid you think they are, are still laws. When you consciously break one, be prepared to face the consequences. And those don't just extend to the ticket. Suppose you were to have died in a crash after being ejected through the winshield. What about those who care about you? You'd cause them that much grief just because you think buckling up is stupid? What's the big deal, it just takes a minute to snap in. You're just upset because you got caught. If you have a problem with the law, take it up with the government. Besides...one of those babies may save your life one day.

With some of the attitudes I see you guys having towards cops I hope the nail you for every little infraction they can. Did you ever stop and think that if you weren't breaking the law they wouldn't ticket you? The good thing about Florida is that they no longer need a reason to pull you over to get you with a seatbelt violation. Not wearing your seatbelt is reason enough.:)

How can you guys bad mouth cops? They are doing their jobs, protecting you from your own stupidity. They go out every day trying to keep you safe and putting their life on the line. You're just making it harder for them to do their jobs by not wearing a seatbelt when they could be out stopping an armed robbery, etc. Put the damn seatbelt on and quit complaining. Try a ride along with a cop one day and see the crap they have to put up with. The only time they get to interact with the public is when someone has done something wrong, of course they are in a bad mood. And having to deal with someone not wearing a seatbelt just makes it worse because he could out driving around your neighborhood, preventing your house from being broken into.

You are not the only one that is effected by not wearing a seatbelt. After you get into that accident where a seatbelt would have helped out, you have the paramedics out there working to save your life, you have doctors and nurses at the hospital, you have the police out there directing traffic, etc. Your accident and your injury just put a strain on a whole bunch of people that have better things to be doing than taking care of you because you chose to not perform a simple action that could have let you walk away from that accident. It causes the insurance company to pay out a whole lot more money. Rates are high because the insurance company knows that there are a few dummies out there that don't wear seatbelts. I get to help pay for part of that accident, your $100/month certainly ain't gunna pay that $10,000 hospital bill.

I think the message should have read, "I'm stupid. I don't wear my seatbelt and I got taught a lesson. Now I'm smart. Now I'll wear my seatbelt."

Of course they're going to badmouth cops, nobody likes authority and the guys who actually get to carry it out are the ones who are hated the most. I have no idea why you morons don't wear seatbelts, the only reason I've ever heard is it's uncomfortable. Well boo-fvckin' hoo!! damn pussies, get over it. Uncomfortable or dead? You choose I guess.
