I got me a flu shot today. Did you get yours?

Flu going around this season isn't the one they are giving the shot for, so while I still might go get one, I don't really see the point.

so far ive been kinda lucky - havent gotten sick yet, even though i could have.

lucky? Basically, every year they state that the virus has mutated and the shot was worthless. luck is involved whether you get the shot or not.

Got one. Also took the opportunity to ask my doctor about what exactly the point of the flu shot is, as well as why some people have reported getting sick from the shot itself.

Every year the flu shot is set up to affect as many new variations of the flu as possible. If you start getting the flu shot every year, you'll build up your overall resistance to all types of flu. Not that it'll kill any variations of the flu dead, but it'll at the least lessen the symptoms of each.

Lastly, the flu shot that gained notoriety had proteins that caused much of the same symptoms as the flu itself for a short period of time. That's since been phased out long ago.

About two-thirds of confirmed cases elsewhere are A Fujian, which this vaccination doesn't specifically tackle. But the shots do protect against a related virus, A Panama, similar enough that it should offer some protection against the A Fujian strain.

Vaccines are prepared about eight months in advance, which means experts have to guess which strains will be "hot" when flu season starts.

yea but it was pointless this season

you are wrong!!!
The flu shot this year like every year changes.
this year the flu shot varies from the flu going around but it still protects you from many other strands.
highly recomended that you get the flu shot for that reason.
also just cause you get the flu shot does not mean you wont get the flu it will probaly just wont hit you that hard.

if you dont want to receive the whole dose ask for half dose and that way you wont get the side affects of getting a flu shot

I haven't and have no real plans to this year.

They guessed wrong this year and didn't pick one of the strains that was on the upswing. They did get the secondary one though, I believe. So while you wouldn't be fully protected against the most common strain this year, you would be against the lesser one.

Really, though, this year it's only worth getting if you're a healthcare worker, work around the elderly a lot, work around kids, or are a kid. The rest of us, with decently working immune systems, really should only bother with it if they feel a pressing need.

I did...damn glad too. Rumors were flying that the flu was so rampant here they were going to close school for all of thanksgiving week, instead of the usual "the day of and the day after".

I got 1/2 of a flu shot at work, they were using this fancy retractable needle syringe, and the freaking thing leaked! So I got some of the shot in, and the rest was all over my arm. they cant give me another one, since they don't want to overdose me. 🙁

Got mine 1.5 months ago, & I've given about 600...

Supposed to give partial immunity to the flu that's making the rounds this season, I've seen a few people with the flu & they look baaaddd, snot running out of their noses, feel weak as a kitten.

The weakness lasts about 3 weeks🙁
