Essentially in Massachusetts the way you get to your own private practice is by either going through clinical (if you want to work with a very troubled population), or get your MSW then get licensed (if you want to deal with a healthier population, which I do)

Congrats, did my Masters at BU in EE. Not quite the same experience as undergrad at UofM, but it got the job done.

I dunno about all that...I've lived in Boston, have visited Texas quite frequently, and am prone to side with southern women in general. Baton Rouge and Athens, GA have only further embedded this stereotype in my psyche.

And to the OP, congrats. One of the guys who came in with me last year to the clinical psych program here has his MSW. He loved the work and, most importantly, the clients. Best of luck to ya.
