I got harassed last night

went through a roadblock, cop wanted to check my license and insurance...after he ran both he came back asking if there was anything in the car he "should know about"

i told him there wasn't, he asks "are you sure" twice..i tell him no quite forcefully

then he tells me he wants to search my car WTF

i asked him if there was a problem with my license, insurance, or tag...he says no

so i asked him why he wantsed to search my car he said he "had his personal reasons"

so i informed him that if he wanted to search my car he would need to give me his "personal reasons" as this is my PERSONAL vehicle

he tells me he doesn't need my permission to search my car and tells me to get out

i didn't move and asked for his badge number to be written down for me and for another sheriff to come over there

he tells me that he was the one i was going to be dealing with so i rolled my window up quickly and started honking my horn 😀

another officer(who i happened to have gone to high school with 🙂 ) came over and i rolled my window back down and explained to him this guy was treating me like a criminal and i know damn good and well what my rights are and since i didn't do anything wrong and he had no reason to suspect i was doing anything wrong he needed to quit bothering me and send me on my way

he agreed and told me to have a nice evening

as i'm sure you've seen in various threads, i do support law enforcement, however, some of them let it go to their heads and act like this

PSA: just because you have a badge doesn't mean you're king sh1t and rules don't apply to you

i got singled out because i have long hair and wear a lot of gold, and that's basically it

of course, i'm sure that cop is going to pull me over every chance he gets now, and write me tickets for bs

but i do have a witness with a badge that saw that he was harassing me last night, so hopefully any ticket he gives me can be thrown out in court, assuming the other officer will testify on my behalf

but, i never miss a networking oppurtunity, so i handed out business cards to the other officers that were at the checkpoint 🙂

they should have done a body cavity search on you

i think people that are not criminals should cooperate with law enforcement officials

i don't see what was unreasonable about his request, you were on a public road

Yet the officer had no probable cause, and the automobile is his private property, albeit subject to slightly different rules than most private property.

he had no valid reason to want to search my car

i am a us citizen and am protected against unreasonable search and siezure

You shoulda gotten out, pissed on his shoes, bitchslapped him, and drove off. 🙂

then i would be sitting in a jail cell right now instead of posting on ATOT 😛

Yeah, but when you got out you could post an even better story 🙂

until they come to your house to do a search
"but you're not a criminal, then there's nothing to hide" only leads to greater and greater erosion of personal freedoms.
Soon we'll be waking up to viewscreens on our walls. Those viewscreens will be monitoring us.

I do. OP obviously did not do anything wrong, so why is the cop wasting his time searching his car? How would you like it he showed up at your house to search your property just because he has his "personal reasons"?

Sometimes being right has a cost. You may end up paying that cost in the form of traffic tickets or further harrassment. Good luck to you.

yeah, i've already considered that

hopefully the guy i knew from hs will be willing to say something on my behalf if this asshole does start giving me bs tickets every time i turn around

Keep it in mind, might happen sometime down the road... when he pulls you over again. 🙂

If you haven't done anything wrong, and there's no reason to suspect that you have done anything wrong, then any type of search is unnecessary, unwarranted, and - dare I say it? - unreasonable.

The OP had every right to raise a ruckus over that officer trying to pull a random search for no good reason.

You should document this incident in full, and make sure you get multiple third-party witnesses. Seriously. If he does start to harass you you should look into litigation.

well, the only third party i could find again is the other officer there that i knew...so should i hunt him down and take notarized testimony from him or what?

i don't even know if he would be willing to testify against a fellow officer

and if he's not, what then?
