Sounds like both you and your old boss are scumbag thiefs. Just because your boss said it's ok to take something after nobody claims it for one week doesn't make it right. And it's a shame you don't know better and have to come on here to ask if that's fair.

what's wrong w/ just taking unclaimed items ppl leave behind? while 1 week is a little short, I wouldn't call them scumbag theives.

altho, seems as everyone is assuming it was a cell phone... if that's the case, it's not hard to contact the owner. I was thinking someone left behind stuff for repairs and didn't claim it for some reason

No one assumes it's a phone. It's stated quite clearly in the original post that it is a phone.

Are you retarded? Inguyen said everyone was assuming it was a cell phone. In other words, it could have been an ordinary landline telephone. Geez. How much of an ass do you have to be to nitpick stuff like this?

Anyway, I agree with Baked -- OP's a crook.

I did try to get the phone to the other. I called every number in the phone and talked to 2 people who said they could get in touch with the owner.

So you knew that 2 people where trying to get in touch with the owner and you still took the phone?

What happens when they do get in touch with the owner and he comes to the store looking for the phone. - Oh wait, that did happen. And the phone wasn't there because you took it. And you got fired.

Seriously, think ahead.

o wait, the owner CALLLED looking for the phone, the boss saw it missing, didnt ask around, and then fired him.

im pretty sure if he was asked if he had the phone he would have returned it...

well technically i didnt get fired, i got suspended till furthur notice

Well the notice will be you were fired😉 That will end the suspension.

the reason is they have to pay you upon termination and well they can suspend you and then when the check arrives they can fire you. pretty standard practice.

On another note why would you take something that did not belong to you. It is not like you found twenty bucks on the street. You had something in the lost and found and it should stay there until it is retreived and then it should not be taken home I don't care for how long.

I second this.

The only reason to grab the phone is to try and find out who it belongs to, or to call someone on the phone to find out who it belongs to so they can contact the person and tell him/her to pick up their phone.

If it was my phone, I would give you a big ass whoopin. Likely the ass whoopin of your life (but you might have had plenty of them, and I don't know how bad they were, so it only might rank up there with the whoopins of your life).

Do you really think he left behind is landline phone, or his cordless phone?

Wow, you are a complete dumbass. I just can't hold back this time.

Wow, sounds like you guys are a bunch of crooks. Serves you right to get fired. I hope the new boss fires everybody and hire some new people who do the right thing.

Do you guys think it is safe to assume that the old boss probably got canned for some kind of fraud?

There shouldn't be a need to return the phone. Don't take it in the first place.

A cell phone with numbers in it can always be returned to the owner. You don't claim it is yours when a week goes by - and not tell your boss about it.

And you still took it? Wow, you are a complete and utter dumbass. Not only do you deserve to be fired, but I hope that the next 10 or so jobs that you apply for call this place or just happen to have ATOT members and find out what kind of a dumbass you are.

So if the cops pull you over and you have 10 kilos of cocaine in the back, its ok as long as you admit it? Is it the same scenario? No. But coming clean under interrogation doesn't make it any better.

anyway, my old boss at work used to let us take stuff that customers would leave after a week.....anyway, we got a new boss rcecently and this customer left a phone in the store....i held it for a week and he never called so i took it....the next day he calls and my boss is like, "yea we have it" and then realizes its missing and got pissed and looks at the tapes and sees me take it...so i give the phone back and tell him how i thought after a week it was up for grabs and he says thats not true and fires me....wat you guys think about this??

I think you have poor ethical values to begin with, so it doesnt come to my surprise that you were fired for that behavior. And if your former boss had no problem with that behavior, I would say he set an unethical work climate for you and your fellow employees.

What exactly is your job?
