I got an entry-level penetration tester job, but a lowball salary?!

Thanks, everyone.

I forgot to mention that this gig will also get me a Secret level clearance, which I've been told is pretty valuable assuming it comes through. It should since I have a clear record as far as I know.

Stay there for a year, and try to get promoted to a deep-level penetration tester. Mention how many inches you are able to accept during your review.

You kidding? He's barely gotten his*cough* feet wet, it will take more than a year to know their network in the biblical sense.

Thanks, everyone.

quite valuable given you can qualify and get it in a reasonable time frame. then look around for a much higher paying gov contractor or such. unless you actually like to do work.

the risk of not being employed in the field for a long period of time would be worse than a temporary $10k lack of salary. flipping burgers or being an IT minion in the meantime arent exactly bargaining chips.

They are going to ask you if you posted about the job in a forum, and what forum you posted it to.

That is a great thing to have....pick up some experience, get the clearance and shop yourself.

There is no harm telling your employer you find a better offer.
