I Got a Ticket Today! "You be the Judge"

After getting to work today I had to pack some tool to go out to a site and work on a server. I have drove this route many of times. So I leave work and come up on a 4-Way Intersection. I get in the left hand turning lane to turn left and there was a car in front of me and a 18-Wheeler Truck in front of him and in front of the light. As soon as I pull up behind the car he pulls out of the turning lane and cross's into a gas station and turns left; the same direction as the turning lane would of went but avoiding the light. So now Im behind the truck waiting to turn left. I wait about 10 minutes and figured the light wasnt going to change or the driver might of had a problem. Because by now the light would have changed 2 or 3 times normally. Note the truck is blocking my view of the light. Thinking now maybe thats why the previous guy got out of the turning lane and cut through the gas station. So now I decide to do the same thing, so I turn left through the gas station and notice in the oppsite direction a police officer coming in the oppsite direction as the truck was. He turns right onto the same street and stops and I was about to turn left from the gas station. I look at him and he looks at me, so now Im thinking hes just going to let me out and surely he wont pull me over. NOT.. as soon as I turn left the lights come on! Now Im thinking this is BS! He pulls me over and I tell him why I went through the gas station and he turns around and now the truck is turning left. Im thinking this is just great. So he writes me up a ticket for "Disreguarding a Traffic Contol Device".

Would you go to court and fight this or just go to traffic school and pay the fine?

The evidence before the court is incontravertible.
There's no need for the jury to retire.
In all my years of judging I have never heard before,
Of someone more deserving of the full penalty of the law.
The way you made them suffer,
Your exquisite wife and mother,
Fills me with the urge to deficate!

If you have stated everything exactly as it happened then I would go to court and argue it.

Now if you just got impatient because you didn't want to sit at the light that is another story.

Anyways, go to court, tell your story and see what happens.

Jim

ok, i think its always better when u fight it out in court because the cop might not show up and usualy they'll lower the charge or something (from my experience).

here is my retarded attempt at copycat humor... its not even funny to me anymore.. so dont read it. i cant think when im hungry.
yeah i did copy that exact story few hours ago (but probably messed it up as well)

if it was me i would not get out of car, then he'll ask for license and registration ...

me:i dont have one, it was taken away because of my 5 Dui cases.
cop:who is this car registerd to?
me:i just stole it a block ago
cop:im going to have to search the car.
me: dont search the cabinet because it has my unrgistered gun in it, and dont check the trunk because it has dead body... the owner of this car i killed yesterday.
cop😛ut your hands up! and keep em where i can see them! <points gun at me, calls for backup>
cop#2😀o you have any id on you!
me: here u go.. <hand him the license>
cop#3:<checks the cabinet and trunk and finds nothing>
cop#2:what's going on here!, cop #1 said u have a dead body and a gun!
me:I suppose he told you about me "disregarding a traffic control device" tooo..

I'd probably go argue it. Did you ever figure out what was up with the truck? If you had to wait behind a non moving vehicle through multiple light cycles I think you had to move, you couldn't just sit there all day. I'd argue it unless the traffic really was moving just slowly or something. Its the officers testimony that could hurt you if he knows what was going on and you didnt I think!

The light may have changed but I could never see it if so. After waiting 10 minutes I wasnt so much impatient but just wasnt thinking I guess. I just figured it was no big deal. I could of waited longer I guess but figured the truck was having problems. He didnt have his flashers on though.

Sounds like an honest enough mistake to me. i'd go to court say you sat for ten minutes without moving, you assumed the vehicle in front of you had problems and got out of the situation the only way you saw. The only problem I see is if they doubt that you sat there 10 minutes (sure he says ten I'll bet it was 30 seconds....kids...). I still think its worth a chance 🙂

hmmm... if you don't mind a point on your record if you lose fight it... otherwise pay the fine and go to traffic school.

Since I was pretty mad AFTER I found out he was going to give me the ticket and not just a warning, I told him I hope your happy now! He just walked off. Now thinking I shouldnt have said that but it didnt seem to bother him none the less. 🙂

shinerburke, that was probaly the gayest thing i've read in my entire life span. Was anyone else thinking that?

P.S. No offense to anyone with the gay remark 😉

id goto court, the worst that can happen is you have to pay the ticket... dress up, use your yes sir and mam, comb your hair 🙂

Ignorance of the facts (don't take that the wrong way) is no excuse. You still committed the offense by cutting through that parking lot. 99% of judges will find you guilty if you go into court with a sob story.

You might as well go anyways, because there is a chance the cop who handed you the ticket won't show, ESPECIALLY if you use 1 or more extensions. Also, you may find that 1 in a 100 judge that will let you off on compassionate grounds.

I always fight all of my tickets, as court costs are included on the ticket whether you go to court or not. I try to get off on technicalities, rather than throw myself on the mercy of the court.

Have a look at the law for your offense, and see if there is a way to get off on a technicality. If you at least know what you are talking about in court, the judge may be swayed by the fact that you actually did your homework.

Good luck!

when i went to traffic school a couple months back someone asked a question like that, like if you're allowed to cut through a gas station or somthing. the guy teaching or whatever said you can't get a ticket for doing that. For all the cop knows you pulled in to fill up gas but decided not to. I think you should be able to get out of it

Sorry you feel that way....it's some lyrics from one of the greatest albums ever made.

I dont understand

you broke the law...and its BS.?? if you did it...pay the fine and do whatever.

you want off because someone else did it? I'm having trouble following your story...but a judge will make you his bitch if you go in the court w/ " someone else did it" story.

Pink Floyd - The Wall

Specifically a song named The Trial. Album two, side two, next to last song.

whatever you do..DO NOT go against the story of what you told the cop.. they write notes about every ticket in their logbook so they can remember teh case when yours comes up. call up the police station that you got the ticket from...subpena ALL information about your case (copies of the log, any notes that the officer wrote, anything that pertains to your case). you might have to get forms from the court, which they will gladly provide. also, keep asking for extensions...call them up and ask for a couple of 30 day exts before you have to show.. then pay the bail (you have to pay in advance), then get another extension when they give you a trial date.. you should be able to extend it at least 3 months. hopefully he won't show. if he does, just tell the judge what happeend and hopefully he'd be sympathetic. good luck. damn pigs.
