I got a Samurai Sword for Christmas!

My brother is in the Air Force and currently stationed in Japan. Anyway, he sent me a Samurai Sword 3 weeks before christmas.
Its a nice sword so I'm lookin for a good display case to put it in (instead of the cardboard box it's in now).

Any ideas or sites I can go to for this?

*PICs will come later as I'm at work right now.*🙂

No such thing. Depending on size, it'll have one of three or four names. Most common is the Katana which will be the full-size blade, primary offensive/defensive weapon of the Samurai. There's, like, Wakasashi and Daito and stuff, but I don't remember which is which based on length or how to properly spell them.

hang it above your bed so you can admire it everytime you go to sleep.

don't forget to unsheath it first.

Put a head on it and plant it in your front yard. Then you won't have to defend yourself against the ninjas.

Of course he would! Ninjas flip out and cut people's heads off, so they'll naturally think that a ninja lives there. Unfortunately, ninjas are canibalistic.

I actually got two... One is the full size Katana. I'm not sure about the other one... It's like half the length.

This is particularly helpful in Earthquake-county, California 😉

What's that 80's movie where they had ninjas and they stole his priceless samurai sword? American Ninja? Anyway, I think he had his sword displayed on the wall; a custom-made rig to hold it up there, if you will.

Here's a site with some stands:

That should be the Wakasashi (or Wagasashi or whatever), if I remember right. I have a set of three. 🙂 They're freakin cool -especially if they work

LOL @ some of the replies, especially the ninja ones HAHAHAHA.

but anyways, very cool gift and coool brother 🙂.

unfortunately, I donno too much as to where one can get display cases. heh

Nice! When I was in Japan 7 years back I bought a Samurai sword. I have it hanging on my bedroom wall over my bed. Easy access in case an army of ninjas decides to attack me in my sleep.

It's the daito (a sword is only a katana if it is worn blade-up through an obi) and the wakazashi, together they are known as the daisho.

What's an "obi" do to the blade?

<edit>

Nevermind, got it.

Nothing, it's a belt/sash to carry the blade. Daito (long sword) blade up = katana, daito blade down (suspended) = tachi, daito uncarried = daito. Though the blade sizes usually differed by about 8cm between the katana and the tachi, the way they were carried dictated the name.

"daito" literally "big blade"

EDIT: Sorry, misunderstood you.
