I got a new road bike yesterday...

:thumbsup: on the Shimano 105. Definitely the best bang for the buck. I myself got a used 2003 Fuji Roubaix Pro with Reynolds 853 frame and 105 component group for $750 US. Shifts like butter 😀

Have fun on the bike! These things go DAMN fast. My top speed so far is somewhere around 36mph. Hoping for over 40mph sometime.

I think I'm gonna tie my bike behind my friend's car and try to hit 65mph 😀

Nothing wrong with 105, but for $2K CDN retail, I would expect more than 105.

What's the frame made of? Steel? Good bike-bragging netiquette includes a shot of the sticker on the seat tube that has the tubing material/country of origin.

I dunno about specs really, but its a fine bike, for what I use it. I got it "recycled" for $100 (CAD). I replaced the chain yesterday, and now it runs nice a smooth. I only ride about once a week though (I use it to get to work, 6km total, but I don't count that...), usually about 40ish km, so I can't really justify getting a nice bike like yours. I would like to though...even if its a ok bike, its a bit on the heavy side and I only have 10 gears (I can't go past ~50-52 on a straight and could use more help on some hills).

but that was with the help of a hill AND top gear...

My speed record is somewhere at 65 km/h and on a 100$ "mountain bike" (26" wheels with 1.80 noname track tires). I can tell you that at that speed the handlebar is haaard to rotate.
I think it was top gear, and on a "small" downhill (two or three years ago used to ride it up in one hour and ride it down in 10 minutes)
How small? some 6 km and with 7% slope on the most part

well i know.. but even at that, an older bike shouldn't be unrideable, hell my '97 model gary fisher works amazing, and i have no plans on upgrading it at all. i still off road with it regularly... 8 years old, works like a charm. but i understand what you're saying.. but it's like saying an Athlon 2500+ would not run games as good as a 3000+, when in fact, it's only a matter of some fps, not a matter of "work or won't work" .. 🙂 i'll shut-up now!

you're right of course... i only brought up the wheels because my old Schwinn le tour had visible stress fractures on the rims and would pop spokes fairly regularly... the wheels were in horrible shape after only 8,000 miles or so.

I did not pay $2k.. $2k plus tax would have been $2400ish in total.
I paid $1500 out the door. (including pedals) good deal.

the bike is 6061 aluminum, with a carbon fibre fork

lol. well, this hill was nothing. The town I live in is the middle of gently rolling farmlands, so hills don't get that big...

By the way, from time to time (once a year, or so) there comes a truck with burned brakes and hit a building or another, or a fence or something
