it's a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix. not exactly what i wanted but i was kinda stuck. my engine in my old car blew. a piston rod went out and the car is pretty much worthless around it so there was no reason to fix it.

so my question the ATOT car guys is: What should i do about the car that died. should i just call a charity and get the tax deduction? or should i call a local junk yard and have them give me a few dollars for it and take it away? (btw it is still stitting on the side of the freeway)

Most charitys take running cars... :p

I'd just have a wrecker pick it up and take it to a junk yard. The engine is pretty much worthless to anyone except them, so see what they'll give you for it.

yeah there are a couple charities that take them dead or alive. but i'm thinking it would just be easier and best to call one of these guys that will just pick it up and give me whatever for it. i mean the body is pretty much perfect, just everything underneath is crap.

yeah no charity is going to take a dead car, they won't have the funds to put whatever money into the car to fix it up.

Part it out, sell whatever parts still work on egay? What kind of car was it? Most of the time the parts are worth a lot more than the whole car.

oh i'm sure the parts are worth more. it is a '92 Merc Topaz. interchangeable with a Ford Tempo. i'm not going to part it out cause i have no place to do it. and just too much of a hassle for me. wanna buy it and you can part it out? :D (of course you have to pick it up) ;)

Don't worry. It will be impounded shortly. If you don't pick it up, it will be auctioned or disposed of. If there's anything in there that you want, you may need to pay for the tow before they let you near it, so go get the car picked up, or get your stuff out of there.

LOL, just put an ad in the paper or your local.forsale newsgroup and they will come take the parts off themselves.

Oh wait, it's on the side of the freeway? :Q Call a junk yard to take it off. Maybe they won't charge you for the tow. A ticket from the cops is gonna cost more that what the car is worth. :)

Grats on the GP.. I have a 97 and I have enjoyed it.

Unfortunately, the best thing you could prolly do for your old car is what Radeon said. :(
