I got a long awaited call yesterday from a recruiter and he said that I now work at dell, I start monday. Im SO PUMPED!! $18/hr and Im only 18 with no college degree. I set up an appointment for tomorow to finalize the paperwork, tonight when I get my orientation packet I have to fill out some forms, bring them to the nearest drug test place and get tested. After all thats done im good to go for starting work on monday. This is my "first" job in the computer field, I had an internship and Ive always had a small side buisness building and fixing computers, but this is my first time at the show. What was your first real tech job? Also, EIGHTEEN DOLLARS AN HOUR, im only 18 years old with no degree. So all the money I get goes straight into savings, I live at home. Just graduated high school four months ago.

And then young Smoblikat will understand soon enough why all of his posting in P&N about how he doesn't understand why the 'little' people being angry at the 1% being taxed at <15% is actually justified anger when he brings home about $11.56/hr and then still owes both state and federal taxes in 3 months.

If they offer tuition reimbursement, take advantage and get a college degree.

Absolutley, hat was my goal. To get into a good company that has a reimbursement program.

I am senior IT for one of their new england datacenters. I will facilitate fixing their servers, managing backups, sending their tapes out to be archived offsite. Plus, Im also one of two IT guys that will be solving problems for the thousand+ employees working there.

Congratulations!

Thank you!!

You are absolutley right, it DOESNT add up. But im not complaining. I think I was hired to do the IT side of things, and my partner will do most of the server stuff. Its just us two for the whole 9 floors, 3 buildings total. So me being a younger guy I am more able to go around and around all day.

Merci

Grats!

Do you plan on going to college later on?

Absolutley, as soon as I get settled in I will look into tuition reimbursement.

I am surprised they didn't give you a Jr title, and then eventually gave you the new title once they felt good enough with your skills.

You going to pursue your degree still?

Ya, Its truly a once in a lifetime find. I have no idea what I did to deserve it.

I dont like you. How old do you think I am? 5/11/1994 is my birthday, do the math.

I am going to pursue my degree, and I have no idea why anything happened the way it did. I asked for $12/hr standard IT and i now make 18 and my partner is the lead senior tech. I just got lucky.

yeah i hope he updates this thread. i can only imagine the first hour when the real it guy starts asking him to do things and he cant even wipe his own ass:biggrin: but it might just work out for him. once youre hired, you get a few chances to screw up.

Interesting, I guess it's the same as my friend who has zero IT experience got a job with dell as a 'senior technical support rep' for their dell compellent line ... he said he makes about 55k or so...not a job i'd want to do though. He told me they were trying to hire about 50 people :s, cream of the crop, haha!

Haha, well I did a tour of the place with my partner and he explained it and it seems fairly straight foward. Just common sense things, ticketing system, prep the tapes to be picked up. Server maintenence. They have it all redundant so even if I screw up a bit everything will be fine.
