I GOT A JOB!!!!!

I finish my thesis in June, and then Albuquerque, here I come!! Absolutely stoked about the job and the location. I've never lived in Albuquerque, but I've been there a few times and am really excited about it. I get to work on a whole bunch of top secret stuff which will be freakin cool!

Anyway, I'm just excited so I thought I'd share. If anyone has opinions on Sandia or Albuquerque, I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise, thanks for reading and hope your day is as good as mine!

Yes they do. Red Storm

I wanted to see it while I was out there, but they didn't have time. I know they're currently upgrading it, so if it was sweet before, it's gonna be killer soon.

And thanks for the congrats so far.

Congrats, I've been working for a DoD funded research lab for the past 3 years. The first 6 months you'll probably spend reading textbooks while waiting for clearances to come through 🙂

what kinda stuff do they do at this lab? the one here works with LLNL, which is mostly energy testing

Yeah, that's what I've heard. Fortunately, I haven't moved a whole lot in the last few years, so hopefully that will help speed things up. But if not, oh well. At least I'm still getting paid. 🙂

They do all kinds of stuff there. It's actually located on Kirtland Air Force base, so it's pretty large. I know they do a lot of weapon development. I was only given a brief idea of what I would be doing and I know it's in Advance Information Systems. They couldn't go into too many details about who they work with and on what they work, but it just sounds freakin cool. Kind of James Bond type of stuff.

i hate to piss on your parade, but you asked for an opinion of Albuquerque, and my opinion, having been to NM about 5+ times, is that it sucks major major balls.

atleast you can go to Taos or Cloudcroft on the weekends!

LOL. Yeah, just did that the other day. Freakin Aestetic class. I swear, engineers aren't meant to think that way. Spending a semester trying to answer the questions "what is a marker? what is it to be a marker? what makes a marker a marker?" is just plain wrong. Stupid depth classes.

I don't mean to bag on Aestetics, but it's just not made for engineers, IMO.

fixed 😉

SNL = Sandia National Labs - Finally I am enlightened. J/k I wanted to be so much a part of the Huge ZPinch experiments they have there (my MS was in pulsed power engineering). I even had an interview with department head during an IEEE conference back in 2004 but my international status delayed the whole process and I landed my current job.

Get yourself a copy of Weird Al's "Running With Scissors" album, and enjoy his Albuquerque "song." 🙂
