Most rices you make in a regular pot or rice cooker.

I don't know off hand of any types of rice you make in a steamer.

I do vegetables, including potatoes, and sometimes fish. I've tried chicken but it comes out too soft for my tastes. For veggies, simply do 15 minutes if fresh, 20 minutes if frozen. I buy my veggies frozen in 4-pound bags from Costco, then open those and put them into individual gallon freezer bags for convenience. Potatoes iirc take around 40 minutes (regular or sweet).

Steam broccoli. Throw in butter, salt, and pepper. Consume.

One of the best things about a steamer is reheating leftovers like rice and pasta. If you stick leftover rice or pasta in the microwave, it comes out disgusting. If you stick it in a steamer, it comes out as good as new.

I used to work in a cafeteria, and we reheated almost all of our leftovers in the steamer. We covered everything except for rice and pasta with plastic wrap, which I don't think you could do with a smaller steamer. Ours was made to accept 13"x9" pans.

I would think shellfish would be very good in a steamer as well.

Thanks for the ideas. I have never been a big vegetable eater but I will try some. If this thing can get me to stomach broccoli that would be awesome.
