Whatever lock you get, DO NOT get the ones with tubular locks. Google for "Kryptonite" in Google News and see what I mean. Get a good U-lock if possible. Cable locks are very easily cut. Some of the bikeforum guys recommend onguard locks which seem pretty solid to me.

<-- learned lesson the hard way 🙁

On a side note, Kryptonite just sent me a return shipping label to replace my Evo 2000.. :cookie: to them.

We started carrying Onguard locks after the whole Kryptonite fiasco.

The guy that started this company used to be one of the higher ups at Kryptonite. He left them and started On guard. Notice how they DON'T use the round key? I think he knew about this flaw and that's why he left and started his own company. Rumor has it that they (Kryptonite) has KNOWN about this exploit for quite awhile now...

Personally I like the Rottweiler series locks.

Yeah.. I've read that they have known this exploit 12 years ago! :Q

If I were to buy another U-lock now, it would be an Onguard.. lighter and yet provide equal security.

Too bad the local bike shops around me suck. They are still carrying the vulnerable Krypto U-locks

That reminds me that I need to pick up my KHS Montana from my parents. Will need to inflate the tires and perhaps do a tune up on it as well.

shame..

I didn't get mine from walmart/target.
I got it from a sporting good store here

the bike original cost was $500 and it was on clearance!

Kinda a warm deal but not a steal

no way in hell that bike was ever worth $500...

.... but anyway, avoid Kryptonite locks

1. Harro (Been one of the best for years)
2. Dino (96-98) - Best models
3. Mongoose (96-2000) Best models
4. Shwinn
5. Diamondback
6. Elf
7. GT
8. Redline

All very very good names. AVOID HUFFY!!!!!! OMG!!!!! THEY F!@#$%^ BLOW! OR ANYTHING THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE NAME.

You know what those bikes are made out of right? Recycled tin cans.. thats why they are so cheap..

Just thought I'd let you know.

Just because soemthing has big shocks and a nice big fork and a low sitting frame doesn't make it good.

Just kinds of like how a if a Dell says 3.06 GHz, it doesn't mean it's the best or fastest.

I thought Dynos were just crappier GTs?

Hey, think of it this way. A few extra pounds on the bike makes for a better workout for you!

Nice bike for the money. And hey, if it gets stolen (if you're going to school this is a real possibility), you'll be crying a LOT less than all these guys who are crapping on your new bike.

DO NOT take that thing on a dirt trail

not bad for a starter bike if it doesn't kill your desire to ride. good luck 😛

It's not hard to think about what might make these bikes better?a qualified, certified assembly; a better range of sizes; less cosmetic features and more functional ones.

There are problems in the way of implementing these changes, and they're mainly due to market forces. Mountain bikes look cool, and that's what the mass merchant believes the consumer wants. The uneducated consumer wants everything for nothing, and at the mass merchant level, they won't get much. Mike McGettigan, the outspoken owner of Trophy Bikes in Philadelphia, PA says, "when we attempt to show a person a bike at a reasonable price, say between $300 and $500, we're met with ?I can get the same thing for $139.' To which I say no you can't, it's a B.S.O., or Bike Shaped Object. A $139 bike that you don't ride is a $139 loss." So where should you turn if you don't have a lot of money to spend? As is the case with cars, buying used may be your best bet.

Buying a bicycle shouldn't be hard or painful. But the process of buying and maintaining is worlds away from buying lawn furniture, which is exactly how the mass merchant treats the process. A bicycle is not a toy?it is a valid form of transportation and recreation with moving parts that require attention to detail. That detail is something that an independent bicycle dealer is equipped to provide you with, or to help you find the resources you need to do it yourself.

They are, that list is his perspective I guess. What does that list represent, total sales or Quality?!?!?! Either way Cannondale would probably be listed somewhere and so would Giant.

FreAk😀

p.s.- DaWhim as long as you're happy with the bike dont let all the guys hating on your bike bother you. A cheap bike that someone uses is always better then a expensive bike sitting in someones garage.
