Depends on what surface they practice & run on from past experience :)

That's amazing. I've had 2 injuries from track, and every runner I've ever run with has had at least one. You were definately lucky.

Sounds like a good time to pick up a new sport. You already have excellent aerobic fitness, so a crossover into something like cycling, triathlon or inline skating would be pretty damn quick. You'd have to learn to use some new muscles, but you'd kick ass once you got over that barrier.

Just my 0.02

Edit: if you're all-conference caliber, you'd be slapping people around within a year were you to switch to cycling. You also have the ideal build for it (ie- light ;) ) Most colleges have cycling teams, might be worth checking out.

That sucks man. I've been there too. I had a stress fracture that ended my senior year of track. Got 3rd in the state 400 and 2nd in 800 junior year, and I was gunning for 1st place that year. :frown: It started bothering me earilier that year in XC, and was getting worse by the end of the basketball season. I was told by 2 doctors that it was "just shin splints." Finally they picked up the fracture on an x-ray. Oh well.

Takes Fausto's advice and take up something else. With your endurance and fitness level, you will kick-ass at most other things.

Eh...maybe later in life. I know lots of cyclist who used to be runners and got into bikes initially as a form or rehab. ;)

Anyway, are you at least working with a trainer to see if you can avoid this in the future? Shinsplints are a combination of overuse and form/equipment issues IIRC. Perhaps you can use this time to nip future injuries in the bud.

damn man, that sucks :( Get better soon so you can continue to kick ass

I've never had a stress fracture, but last year I got ITBS and was out from March until July... Hope you recover a lot quicker!
