Trying to create a dvd and have only been left frustrated by the amount of really bad software their is on the market to do it.

So far:

1. WinAVI = corrupted DVD that wouldn't play

2. Convert X to DVD = Froze up half way through, slow.

3. DVD Flick = 4 hours later it's done but it's 16:9 when I chose 4:3, no letterbox option.

4. Ulead DVD MovieFactory 6 Plus = slow, bloated, featureless

5. Super DVD Creator 9.5 = Featureless

6. Windows DVD Maker = Keeps Crashing

Still left are Pinnacle, Encore, anything else I should try?

WinAVI = 32 minutes

Sony = 5 hours

What a difference in encoding speed. I like the layout of the Sony software but man does it take forever.

You're just converting avi to dvd right? Don't know why you had a problem with ConvertXtoDVD. I've used this program many times, never a hitch, glitch or bad format, and does a 2 hour movie in approximately 35 - 40 minutes with good quality.

are you trying to convert avi to MPEG2 for dvd and then master the dvd?

I use 2 tools for this:

Canopus Procoder 2 (version 3 is now out) and DVDLab Pro for mastering.

I just finished converting a Pal dvd to NTSC. Using Procoder to vob to vob. It only converted the movie, not the menu stuff. But still looks great.

I've never had a bad conversion with ConvertXToDVD either, I wonder what the deal is here.
Nero I did have problems with, but they were always A/V sync issues...

So far I've come to this:

1. Use WinAVI to convert the file to VOB (very fast)

2. Create the menus with Sony (nice gui but slow encoding)

Some time it could be the dvd player is old and couldn't play dvd-r disc.

Oh, and what I'm using now is call my video converter, it converts files to vobs. These files are heck a lot smaller than winAVI generate and the quality is on par. Then I use DVD Styler to create the menu.

So far WinAVI has been the fastest, MyVideoConverter was much slower. Also file sizes can be made smaller in WinAVI if you want. I just wish WinAVI could produce proper AC3 audio.

I have a whole bunch of MKV video files (music videos, pron and movie trailers), all using the x264 encoder. What's the best way to convert the files to vob/mpg so I can burn a DVD-Video disc?
