I give up on the Canterwood

First I found out that my Corsair TwinX1024-3200LLPT won't work on it, now I'm hearing that my ATI 9700 pro won't work. I'm going to build an AMD and Nforce2. That sucks because I was holding out for the Canterwood.
EDIT: After further investigation I went with the MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R.

Holding out has netted you a big drop in the price of CPUs from both companies, at least 🙂

The Corsair ram will work if you do not use the default aggressive timings. The AYI Radeon 9700 Pro works great @ AGP8X with Fast Writes and SBA enabled.

Dave

I will pass on Canterwood too.😉

it's way too expensive for nothing so springdale will be more in my price range.

Where did you hear about 9700 issues? The Corsair memory works, just not with its SPD timings.

Some canterwood boards state in their manuals that only radeon 9700 pros with a serial number xxxxxxxxxxxxxx30 and above would work. I have an 87... 😀 ... but i still can't afford a canterwood. 🙂

I guess you're good to go then... 🙂 ...i think it was the ASUS manual that said that. Don't quite remember... i do find that a little odd though. 😕

Dave

So what timings should I use?

2,6,3,2 works with my OCZ PC3200EL

Others have reported success with the Corsair 3200LL @ 2,6,3,2 also although you might have to bump your VDIMM voltage up to 2.7

Dave

Yeah, hard to believe one of the most popular cards would not be tested. I recall there was a problem with at least some mainboards when the 9700 first came out and there was a revision made.

I've got a AoOpen AX4C Max and it's working with my Corsair XMS3200C2 256MB SDRAM and my AIW 9700 Pro. When I first installed it, I tried setting the memory timings to 2,7,2,2 and I was getting errors while installing XP. I'm currently running with the default settings. I did notice that I am unable to use AGP Fast writes with my 9700 Pro even though AGP 8X is set. ON my Gigabyte SINXP1394 it wouldn't even boot with the Corsair memory installed.

Frankly I dont think you defectors should be let back into AMD land. Get out and stay out for even considering
going with those _____.

That's pretty ignorant, the intelligent person goes with the best product at the time, and right now it's Intel, next year it might be AMD, who knows. But I didn't marry either one.

Thats pretty ignorant in itself. Intel rules its areas, AMD has its niche. Since most all of you are gamers of course Intel is the best. Thats all...

I haven't given up yet. I have found like always, be very careful and do your homework before you pick a board. I've got it narrowed down to maybe two at the moment, but am not ready yet. Still need to see more results first.

Man why so much bitching? This product is brand new and like anything else it will mature with drivers, bios's and such. I haven't had one problem with mine. Run flawless for what I have so far. Once the new CPU's are out things will get better. A bit more time and you all will be raving about the Canterwood, IMHO 😉

Thats because you have the best one. That board is my # 1 choice at this time. If I could find the non "Max" version, I'd be all over it.

I bought the MSI Springdale (MS865-NEO2LS) board and I too have some issues with running it with my RAM on dual channel mode..

I have it set at Defaults SPD , my CPU is a 2.53 533 MHZ FSB..

Basically, the board doesn't want to run at 333 MHZ with my two 512MB Crucial PC2700 RAM (which definitely works as I've been using said memory chips with my upgraded from intel 845PE mainboard). I try to install windows xp and it blue screens, forcing the mem to 266 MHZ works just fine (typing with it now)..

I'm really hoping that the RAM issue is just a BIOS growing pain..

My RADEON 9800 PRO is working just fine with the board though at AGP 8X FW on..

There is nothing wrong with running 1:1 on a DC DDR board. Can you overclock with it? If so, how high? Can you overclock as high as with the 845PE?
