This is known. Yes. Windows 10 is superior even on old hardware (if proper driver support).

All the benchmarks I've seen show no difference between 'em, and if there is, it's well within the margin of error of a couple FPS difference.

Mind pointing me in the right direction (good ol' source) for findin' old games that get a boost?

In the meantime (back to topic), my five Phenom 570s just shipped out from China today and arriving overseas to me soon. Will let you guys if all five can unlock as quad-core. Why do good CPUs have to come from China nowadays?

Even if there were a market for NVidia-chipset S775 boards, they couldn't be produced, because NV lost the license to Intel's bus.

I got one of those NVidia boards up in the rafters with a E5200. Doubt it's worth much these days.

Well, it won't post, tried two different sticks, in the ECS A55 / A4-3420 combos.

Even if I install a Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1866 stick of RAM first, and set the timings manually, then power-down completely and swap in the Chinese RAM.

At this point, I have no idea if they are just completely dead, or just have a brain-dead / unprogrammed SPD.

Yeah, it was the last one, that one whould be expensive around current 775 board offers, the IGP is really, really good, better than 780G.


Now that i remember ATI had IGP for Intel as well. Here it is: http://www.asrock.com/mb/ATI/4Core1333-FullHD/ i think thats the only one that supported C2Ds.

Good CPUs come from MicroCenter. 5-year-old junk comes from recycling and disassembly centers, many of which are in Asia.

Good on you if you want to spin the roulette wheel buying used CPUs though.

Yes, it's possible all five I purchased don't unlock successfully. I bought two Phenom 560s with the same manufactured date (L3 means December 2013), and both have defective 4th cores.

Actually, the older unlocked ones made in 2010 were better with higher success rate. I have three Athlon 220s AM3 made in 2010 that can be unlocked to quad-core Propus without any single issue.

G31 (GMA 3100, not x3100) is a faster version of GMA 950, so sure, it's probably worse.
but G41 was a big improvement and supports SM 3.0 properly, I've been able to run a few games that a X600 or G31 can't run with a GMA 4500, also GMA 4500 doe have some better video acceleration support for h264 and so on.

apart from IGP performance, the G31 chipset probably performs better than the ATI chipset.

realistically GMA 4500 is probably better than any ATI IGP for lga 775 or the Geforce 6/7 based IGPs from Nvidia, but they are all horrible anyway.

Phenom X2 570s are depreciating down a little to $22.62 shipped now. Search for eBay item #291748612060. Excellent value. Screw you, FX-4100, lowest is $56 right now, that's a lot of money, and FX-4100 is the least-expensive FX you can get.

I bought five 570s previously for $26 each, and only one can unlocked successfully with stable cores. So, it's a 20% unlock success rate. Some of them need to deactivate the fourth-core, and I get tri-core instead.

eBay item # 291748612060 (all 5 I bought in May 17) can unlock to quad-core up to 3.7 GHz max with no problem at all as Phenom B70 from this seller only. Requirement is "J3" batch at serial number, not "L3", that's what they have right now despite the picture copied from other listing.

Yes, I know. But, the Phenom B70 X4 unlocked for $17 is still faster and cheaper than A6-7400K, and A6-7400K is actually a single-core with two-threads.

the 2 best bangs for the buck for me were an Athlon II x3 455 and a PII x2 555 that I bought used for cheap.

The Athlon unlocked the 4th core and gave me a 3.3 ghz quad core that was just a tick slower than my PII x4 965BE.

The PII x2 unlocked both cores and is basically a PII x4 955.
