A quick question what is the difference between the geforce 2 version mx and gts?
i know the mx is cheaper, im tryin to decide between gettin the mx now or a coppermine and slocket to make my sys go faster
EDIT- yeah i have a prog that i run and on the sys described in my sig i get .5 fps
on a sys with an older 8mb vid card i get 8 fps (i wont mention it locks up dead)

i think no programs should get 0.5fps on a V3 2000 P2/450

check system settings

GF2MX:
2 pixel pipelines with 2 texture blocks 175Mhz core and 166Mhz SDRAM

GF2GTS:
4 pixel pipelines with 2 texture blocks 200Mhz core and 166Mhz DDR (333Mhz) SDRAM

So it has a little over twice the fillrate, and twice the memory speed.
At high res memory speed is a big limiation, so at high res the GF2 GTS mauls the MX. At low-mid resolutions they are closer, but the fillrate edge from the GTS gives it the win there to.
The important difference is the memory speed though.

hmm, im gonna look at the prices between the 2 versions mx and gts. I want to get a card with dvd decoding built in, and tv out built in any suggestions?

<< I want to get a card with dvd decoding built in >>

ATi is the only company that offers DVD decoding functions built in. nVidia offers some hardware motion compensation but it doesn't do much.
With a Radeon I get less than 10% CPU usage on an athlon 550 because the Radeon does iDCT.

Besides, a 450 P3 is fast enough to decode DVDs in software

I'm looking at the Hercules 3D Prophet MX as a good MX card.
It has faster memory than other Mxs so at higher res it's a bit faster, and it has TV-out.

Set your desktop color to 16bit and you'll get a good 50+ fps on the fish screensaver. It's just a bug with the voodoo3.

As soon as I saw this thread the old 32-bit color-o'-doom in that benchmark came to mind.

Switch to 16-bit color for a better score.

With my Athlon 1.2Ghz and overclocked GeForce2 GTS @ 235/395 I get well over 300fps with the fish screensaver at 1024x768 16bit. Incidently, 3DMark gives me 8200 3DMarks with the same setup. I'm happy.

If you are really looking for a value card that does a lot of what you want it to do (ie DVD decoding) you should look at no other than the ATI Radeon SDR. A "value" card that's FASTER than the Geforce 2 MX and has built in hardware DVD decoding.

ATI Radeon SDR should easily be your graphics card of choice.
