I get cramps in leg after night of drinking

About 15% of the time, after a night of drinking I am suddenly awakened from a peaceful slumber to a painful cramp (charly horse) in my calf muscle, usually my left. It lasts anywhere from 10-30 seconds I believe, and can range from hardly being painful to being extremly painful (painful enough to where I have trouble walking for the rest of the day).

I am wondering if anyone else has this problem, and why exactly this happens.

I know general muscle cramps are due to the lack of potassium, I believe, it is, in your bloodstream. (I think?)

Eat more bananas.

when did you notice these symptoms? is this something that you've been noticing recently? has the cramping gotten any worse? are you able to contract or stretch those muscles? do you feel numbness? do you ever get the same symptoms without drinking prior?

Drink lots of water and eat lots of bananas. I used to get them all the time during wrestling season. Dehydration sucks ass.

ditto that, I get them too. Just eat healty before you binge drink 🙂

Its probably dehydration if it only happens when you drink. Drink some water before you go to bed, its good for you anyway.

There is a scientific reason for this. I think it was something building up in your muscles because of the alcohol. Hmm.. I'm gonna google this.

Ok, to be safe you have to drink a lot of water before you go to bed, eat a banana and stretch your legs before calling it a night.

🙂

I usually try to drink a bit of water before I go to bed so I dont get a hangover. Sometimes I do forget though.
