I run a review publication and Pogo Linux is sending me a dual Athlon MP Workstation to test and you can bet after its done testing its gonna run Seti! Excessive Hardware. Sorry, just had to tell someone.

DNET has a benchmark built into it, at least i think it does. and for seti you can just use the ars bench unit, or just take the average of say 200 WU's

geek167: Congrats dude! Now get that thing up and running so you can get the 12+ WU's per day out of it!

Whaaaaaa. Man How do I get in on those deals.....

Oh wait it probably means you have to try out a lot of different programs & stuff & then write about it.
The "trying different program" & running benchmarks prolly isn't too bad...esp if you get to keep it.
Wouldn't be into the write up tho.. sounds like too much work.

Congrats geek167.... Can I have the your left-overs? 😀😀😀

Need any help writing reviews??? 😀😀😀😀😀😀

<< Searching, it is the Tyan S2466 Motherboard. Not sure if that is the Tiger or Thunder. >>

That's the Tiger MPX 😉.

XP Pro *might* get close to the WU output you can get in Linux, but otherwise, you should see far better WU production in Linux in my experience....but I've never actually used W2K before, just NT 4.0 and 98SE

And............

Wow! Congrats on the freebie! Those are the nice little surprises in life that just
make it all worthwhile, you know? 🙂

Enjoy!

"Which will produce more WU's faster? Red Hat Linux or Windows2k?"

By a very slim margin, Red Hat. At least, until AOL gets their hands on it. Then, it will probably be outperformed by WinME 😛

lol. 🙂 AOL, icky 🙂

Anyway, on Linux you will see times about 5-6 minutes faster than on a win2k machine.

My recommendation for benchmarking SETI is to set up a new email/seti account and only have the test rig using it, thus providing you with an average WU time just for that machine. That way it will get proper seti work units (as most people get), and when its finished you can always retire the account into your own normal SETI one.

As said before, the D.net RC5/OGR client has inbuilt benchmarking abilities.

How do you go about retiring the account? I would be interested in doing this so please inform. Thank you.
