I am in the same situation like you. After a week of drinking coffee and then stop, I would wake up tired and get huge headaches at the end of the day.

Withdrawal. It'll be gone if you can keep up for couple weeks.

I gave it up for two months. I figured the withdrawal would be over by then. Now to be fair, I still drank a cup or two of green tea during the day, but that doesn't contain too much caffeine.

Well WTF man, you never really gave up. you're a waste, try it for real then post about it. don't kid yourself or make frauduant posts. the caffeine is getting to you i see.

There is like 5mg of caffeine in green tea. Compared to the 8 cans of diet coke (38mg per can).

10mg vs 400mg. C'mon.

Edit: I was unclear. I drink decaf tea.

From later post:
"I basically make my green tea decaf. You brew it once, for only a few minutes. That gets most of the caffeine out, but leaves a lot of flavor. I pour out the first batch, then I brew the same leaves again."

yea but its prolonging your withdrawal, doesnt matter how much caffeine it is. if its in you, you;re going to withdrawal for as long until you completely remove it, then go through withdrawal.

edit: after googling, its 20mg per 8 oz, so 40mg not 10mg

haha! I drink the cheap stuff they give out for free at work. I'm talking starbucks and Mugsys here. Tastes like gasoline if taken straight. It's amazing what a little sugar and two creamers will do for it. :p

You need to try good coffee. I buy green unroasted coffee and roast as needed, you can't find coffee like that very often, and it never needs additives like cream or sugar.

One negative of my hobby is that I find it difficult to tolerate coffee from anywhere outside of my kitchen.

I had neck problems for years, which gave me a tension headache by the end of the day.

Then one morning during tax season, I had half a cup of coffee because I was more tired than usual. The rest of the week I drank coffee. By the end of the week, I realized my neck wasn't hurting anymore.

I've been drinking coffee for years since then - if I stop, by the 2nd mid-day my neck stiffens up and I get a headache.

I even started going to bed earlier, getting 8-9 hours of sleep every night. I still felt horrible and was always tired.

Now, a week after being back on caffeine, I get six hours of sleep. I wake up and feel great. I'm productive again. I can actually focus.

Yay caffeine.

Jesus! How much caffeine do you consume a day? I drink about a cup and a half of coffee every morning but that's it for the day. I'm almost 40 and I could give up caffeine tomorrow.

I would say six caffeine drinks a day. A coke in the morning, a coke at lunch, a coke in the afternoon, and a few cokes in the evening.

Actually, I've stopped drinking caffeine in the morning. Whats strange is that I don't drink caffeine til about 2pm now, but I can wake up at 8am and feel great and not tired.

Fundamentally it bothers me being addicted to something like that. Absolutely needing anything to get through the day does not appeal to me.

Thats not an addiction, its a necessity (and no, caffeine is not a true necessity).

I don't need caffeine. I can totally get through my day without it. Its just an enhancer that makes my life more pleasant.

Need my two - three cups in the morning (that's what my travelers mug holds) or I can't function during the day. My day lasts from 8am to 1am almost every day.

Though I've been drinking it almost every day lately..I've noticed that if I force myself to go a little while without it, it feels great again without the tolerance I've built up over drinking it on a regular basis. Of course it doesn't help that my roommate buys a bunch of delicious flavors and always makes too much...oh well.

And people complain that smokers are addicted and can't quit... Sheesh.

I drink ice water all day and that's it. I rarely get more than 7 hours of sleep. I'm never tired during the day, unless there's nothing to do at work, and have no problems staying up late or getting up early.

I used to live on Mtn Dew in college but now I don't drink caffeine at all unless I don't have an option in a diet soda that has caffeine.

Yes, because smoking does so much damage without any real benefits. Caffeine isn't necessarily unhealthy, and has obvious benefits.

There's a difference between drinking it more and more and more each day to make up for your built up tolerance to feel good, and to use caffeine strategically to perform better in critical times, like presentations, meetings, driving late at night.

5 mg in decaf green tea
20-50 mg in green tea
~100 mg in 1 cup of drip coffee
80 mg red bull (the rest of the feel good is a marketing celebration of the transfering of your money to their corporate bank account)

You got soda about right.

Red Bull isn't entirely a caffeine drink.

I personally just buy the rainforest blend from caribou coffee and grind it up myself. All other coffee's suck now.
