I'm not a beginner, but sometimes I'll see a flop with suited cards particularly if they have straight potential. It sounds like he nearly had a straight flush on the (edit) flop (assuming one of the 5 of spades you mentioned in his hand/board was a similar but different low spade card). He's probably got something like 12~15 outs to make the best hand at that point if he figures he's not playing against higher spades. I might have chased to the river if I could afford it.

Yes, I bet on the flop. He went all in on the turn. I called.

Don't get me wrong people. I played like an idiot. He caught me napping completely and I didn't even see the flush. Literally did not even see it. That's the worst play I've made since I can remember. All I'm saying is you don't see a lot of callers with 35. Suited or not.

ever watch daniel negreanu (2004 player of the year) play?

oh and i don't know why im bumping this...

Wow, ummm... He was the big stack, it was cheap to see the flop, he was suited with straight possibilities, that's why he called.

I don't think he sounds inexperienced from what you're telling us, you do...
note:
<---- not an experienced poker player.

you have two pair...and you ask what could be better.

How is this guy inexperienced. he had two spades...the the flop gives him two more...he's flush draw after the flop....and then he goes all in after the 3 spade hits the table.

Unless he was playing ultra aggressive the entire round...I'd give the highstack his due.

You my friend are the noob at poker.

i love to play suited anything, i have to watch myself on it when i am short stacked to back off paying the larger blinds to see the flop

He played it right, you made the mistake by not making him pay to see the flop. Inexperienced players are easy to beat, it just takes self control, which most poker players don't have. The crazier the player, the tighter you have to play. Easier said than done, but it works.

No offense, but thats not an inexperienced move.

No pre-flop raise, meaning, I'll call with 3-5 suited any day as chip leader. Free flop for the chip leader? Never give the chip leader a free flop.

Way I see it, you gave him a free flop. You pair your As, he pairs his 5s. So now my guess if I was him and you bet, is that you had a pair of As. But he had 5s, a straight draw, and a flush draw. Now without the pair of 5s I might not call a huge raise, but with a pair, and alot of outs (assuming you just had the As), I'm going to call some raises. Then he hit the flush on the turn, and you got unlucky that it helped your hand. Its cards.

I have seen pocket As lose to 2-7 off suit. It happens.

When will people learn there is no skill in poker, only luck. You can play the odds, but you never know. Also this guy is obviously better than you. You couldn't even see all the possible hands he could have. Also your weak betting was pitiful.

It's all about expected value.

Whether you win or lose a specific hand is pure luck but long term proper play (greatest EV) will result in profit.

Then there's always the idiots like the one currently gracing my signature. Follow them around for a night & you can make far more than EV.

100% agreed

I think he was in for the same stupid reason you were in. Plus he's chip leader so that means he can call for a cheap flop.

How much was your preflop raise? What were the blinds? By how much did he have you covered? How did he have the 5s when it was on the board? 😉

haha so he was a CHEATER!

you said there were 8 people

you call him caller implying he was NOT a blind

(from this I am assuming you are a blind)

however on the turn he going all in first so that means he was in an earlier position than you meaning he was a blind or you checked to him and let him go all in

if you raised on the turn and he reraised you just got schooled

I find it surprising that the little blind did not call in this situation as well especially if the there was no preflop raise

if he had position on you and you didnt raise you can hardly call him a newb for calling that hand preflop
