I freaking hate Windows Activation

This time I am really pulling my hair out.

This is like the 5th time this year I've been asked to reactivate my genuine copy of Windows because of hardware changes. It went painlessly over the internet the last few times, but now I need to call them again, because I activated "too many times."

I am getting to really hate WGA.

This wasn't invoked by the new WGA download. It was invoked by Windows on boot-up, after me installing a new Radeon 9600, and moving my TV card to another PCI slot. Too many hardware changes.

Yeah, I have a copy that I won in an M$ contest in 2001 when XP first came out. I activated it so many times I have had to resort to the automated dialing service. It isn't bad, at least the errors go away 🙂

A resonable person would put the blame in the correct place and hate on the Pirates.

Yeah, it's annoying, but at least it's pretty painless.

geeesh stop being soo lazy

It still sucks...especially when you rely on Skype as your telephone in your room, since your cell doesn't get reception.

"OK, and how many computers do you have this copy of windows installed on?"
...*sigh*

Holy crap, you mean the pirates hacked into Microsoft and uploaded the code to incorporate activation into XP? Bastards!:Q

I had to activate Windows again last week after installing my Big Typhoon 😕

Of course my USB wireless adapter only works from within Windows... oh well like desiplaya4life said it took less than 5 minutes to do it on the phone.

how about the fact if not for thief's then MS wouldn't have to resort to stupid and infective measures to try to keep thief's from stealing it?

I'm sick of it as well.

Online doesn't work anymore. Automated phone activation doesn't work anymore. Only talking to the on duty supervisor from India works.

Out of all my friends, I am the only one who pays for all music and software..... yet I have to jump through all of these hoops...

Same here.

People who want to avoid activation just get a pirated Volume License copy.

obviously you were not used to using windows BEFORE windows xp.

the activation thing is annoying to say the least.

edit: and it's also sad that you got so used to it, that you think it's a normal process in using software.

As usual, legit users get inconvenienced and punished, while the pirates happily continue doing what they were doing, not impacted by these idiotic measures. Another reason not to purchase anything from MS.

If you want a no-hastle way to reactivate over the telephone, just tell them you had to re-install due to spyware (was told this by a microsoft rep at work)

You're lucky. I mirrored my laptop hard drive to a new drive and got the phone home to big brother prompt.
