You know, this may SOUND funny to you at the time, but could you really kill and eat a kitten? Sure, if you were starving, but could you do it any other time? I mean, what is the point? I guess I don't really see the humor in this statement, other than maybe the shock value.

Ryan

Eating may be a problem, but killing sure ain't.

It all tastes like chicken.

I guess when you're 12 years old it's funny.

Bah. Having a sense of humor is timeless.

So, does tarhealmm not have a sense of humor, or is it just me? I just don't find his statement amusing at all. What is humorous about eating kittens?

Fair enough... However, it sounds like this person lives in a city, so in my humble opinion, animal control probably has better tools to put these kittens down than he does. I'm talking about humanly putting them down, too.

Ryan

I was speaking figuratively of course.

Ah, nevermind... I understand now... Sorry, in my annoyed state I overlooked the obvious referrence...

Reminds me of that link going around of the people who were going to put all those puppies down if they weren't adopted and everyone said it was somebody they knew but it was actually on snopes :)

So if there's another culture that considers eating cats perfectly normal, they're flawed in some way? Just because THIS culture doesn't consider cats food doesn't mean they cannot be. We consider cows food and yet some consider them sacred animals. So if we joke about eating cows and that it's burger time, are we being insensitive and cruel? I think you need to realize that there are different viewpoints than yours out in the world and not get all hyper-defensive and condescending.

Well, I'd take one, since I probably live within stonethrowing distance of him, but they don't exactly let pets stay in the dorms.

I understand that some cultures view these animals as food. Mine doesn't. It doesn't mean that I don't respect those cultures. I'm not being defensive or condescending here. I am merely curious as to why the notion of eating kittens is humorous? I personally find it in very poor taste to make jokes like that. I know some people don't like cats, but that doesn't mean they have to joke about killing and eating them. I know that in other countries people eat cats and dogs, however, in the US there are laws against this sort of behavior.

Also, I'm more than willing to bet that tarhealmm made his statements for shock value and not to make a point about cultural bias.

EDIT: Also, if I were in India, I wouldn't make jokes about eating cows. It is simply insensitive. I do think that tarhealmm has every right to say what he wants on these boards, but I also have every right to ask what was going through his head at the time and why he thinks his statements are relavent or amusing.

We've already hijacked this thread enough, but I'll merely point out that in the thread about killing chickens, you thought a joke about it was funny. At least be consistent in your moral high ground.

You are right, and this will be my last statement. I'm not taking a moral high ground. I just don't find his statement funny. I'm curious as to WHY it is funny, or why it was made. I don't think you need to defend tarhealmm here, but apparently you have some need to take his side. In the other thread, I was laughing at a pun made, and not at the thought of grinding chickens. In regard to those animals, the chickens were raised as livestock to serve a purpose. Once they could no longer serve that purpose, they had to be disposed of. Maybe the chipper wasn't the best way, but it is over now. This is how things work in the agriculture business. However, there is a distinct difference between these chickens and the kittens under the porch, and I think you know this.

At any rate, we've argued enough. You think I'm a cultural elitest and a hypocrit, and I'm just wondering why someone would deem it necessary to make a joke about eating kittens. I just fail to see any humor in it... Just another day and another pointless argument on ATOT...
