I found Sea Shephards new addition to the fleet

Much as the Sea Shepherd crew can be annoying, there is no question in my mind they are on the right side of this issue. The Japanese are engaged in systematic, unlawful behavior that has significant consequences for the planet. Would you guys also root for the dolphin killers after watching The Cove?

There is nothing wrong with the Japanese whaling. Over whaling is the issue, that is not what these fuckers want to stop though. They want to stop ALL whaling. Fuck them, stupid fucks. Honestly how come the Japanese ships haven't sunk this mother fucker yet? If I was a captain, I would have a long time ago.

I agree that it may have been staged, but:

He almost got stabbed to death in the jungle by Klaus Kinski, and almost killed in the jungle by other people he pissed off on the sets of two movies, and he was nearly crushed by a boat. I don't think he gives a shit about getting shot with an air rifle. In fact, I just don't think he gives a shit period.

As for WW crew people getting shot by whalers, it's obvious that the only reason people watch the show, or that the producers produce the show, is the hope that some day soon, someone will die.

I watch whale watchers because of the fascinating and brave people fighting international eco-terrorism...

?? i don't understand the reference.

You said that a close-range rifle wound would have a bigger impact than that and could not be ignored by someone wearing a bullet-proof vest. It was a BB or pellet gun, but it was still a rifle at close range with enough power to penetrate his clothes and flesh and he did somewhat ignore it. It didn't "knock the wind out of him" and it doesn't look like it "hurt like a mother fucker" either.

What happened after The Cove? Any updates? Is dolphin still being served to the Japanese?

They didn't kill any in 2009 but did have the hunt in 2010 though it was smaller than before. There was also supposed to be a conference/meeting/mediation in Nov 2010 but it was canceled after Rick O Barry made a huge deal about media restrictions at the meeting and extra security had to be called in.

Even if the dolphin harvest in Taiji was called off it wouldn't make that big of an impact since it only accounts for about 10% of the dolphin meat.

You have to keep in mind that hunting and eating whale/dolphin meat has a large historical/cultural component to it, the earliest known written records of it are from the 7th century. A couple of decades of "Western" influence isn't going to change it overnight.

lol, those morons don't fight eco-terrorism. looks like you drank the kool aid.

Define intelligent. So some species get a pass because they have a bigger brain? Uh huh.
http://www.toptenz.net/top-10-smartest-animals.php

Better not eat octopi or squid, they're smarter than the average "smart" housepet. Which of course you wouldn't eat either. What about pigs? They're considered intelligent as well.

Do you avoid pork because pigs can learn neat tricks? What about BACON?

Humans crack me up.

Cephalopods have such a short lifespan I can't feel bad eating them.
Symbiotic pest disposers are also off limits yes.(barring an emergency... 😉
Pigs are not impressive. The wild ones damage crops and the food animals are bred to be large and bulky. baconnnnn

You cant really compare an air rifle to a real rifle. Sure they look the same, but the damage is nowhere near comparable.

Knowing Wernor Herzog, that probably was staged. His not-really-documentaries embody the 'ecstatic truth' of reality, which can only be shown through art. He does change things in his non-narrative work, but has never claimed that they are real reflections of every day life. I highly recommend his film, "Grizzly Man" (it's referenced in the video), which is one of these kind of documentary about a crazy person being deconstructed by a German dude who was born during WWII and was a young child during its aftermath. That's the kind of man you want analyzing the life of a hippy who got his dumb ass eaten by a bear.

"Encounters at the End of the World" is great, too. It's on Netflix and is one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. Once I get a blueray player, it will be my first purchase.

did you just compare getting shot by a bb gun to a rifle? he got shot (grazed) by a bb gun of course it didnt knock the wind out of him nor would it if it was a full on frontal shot. i guarantee you, if you get hit with a real bullet even a .22 with a vest on its going to hurt like a mother fucker and leave one hell of a bruise.

Compare the damage. The whole point was that there wasn't much, thus, it is comparable.
I can because I have no idea what the eco-terrorist was shot with and I could assume that it was something minor if it didn't have much of an effect.

So, you're saying that he was shot by something more substantial but he wasn't? All I'm saying is that obviously there are degrees to which it can affect you depending on the type of shot. I didn't see the episode but I'm sure it's safe to say that he wasn't shot by a flare gun and you yourself are saying that he wasn't shot by a .22. The people they are after very well may have had air guns, considering where they were and the fact that they aren't trying to kill anyone.

So then stop shoveling your sentience BS. A pig is just as smart as a whale but you'll still eat it. The Japanese have been eating whales/dolphins for just as long as we've been eating pigs so who gives a dam about "sentience"? It's a losing argument, neither are endangered and both are viable food sources.

An air gun wouldn't do ANYTHING to a bullet-proof vest.

Except that whales taste like azz and pigs taste like heaven.

Not true. It it very tasty.

Depending on the cut it can be a bit gamey, like venison, but nicer fattier cuts are very mild and quite good. A lot of older Japanese have bad memories from their childhood, when hard rubbery whale steaks were served in school lunches (whale meat accounted for ~50% of protein intake in Japan after WWII), but that's like saying New York strip steaks are gross because you had a improperly cooked rump roast.

I only watched like 1 or 2 episodes. Basically what happened

1. Float around the ocean trying to find a whaling boat
2. Found 1 and floated beside it "chasing it" but you can't crash into it or anything. They did yell at each other on megaphones though.
3. Someone on the boat got sick and someone else helped her.
4. They threw stink bombs at the whaling boat and cheering like wild banshees b/c it was "really going to annoy the whalers and they are now going to have to wash their decks"
5. The captain claimed to get shot by the Japs
6. Broke off the "chase" as their "work was done here" to find another whaling boat

Kind of pointless.

im saying he was not shot at all. No it was not a air gun, there is a clip where they dig the bullet out of the vest in the wheel house and it is not a bb or pellet it is a bullet and from the spread on it it looks like a hollow point. if you have not seen the clips on youtube then why are you arguing about it?

yes the vest had a bullet in it and from his reaction of "being shot" is not consistent of what happens when you are shot wearing a vest. i truly believe and its just my belief that the whole thing was staged. he fired a bullet into that vest long before the encounter with the whaling ship he was just waiting to get his ship close enough so he can go outside the wheel house to start the hoax. hell even in the show while the capt was outside with his hands in his pockets watching the exchange of stink bombs and flash bangs the guy driving the boat says he (boat driver) is watching to see if anybody on the whaling ship pulls a gun......

wow what do you know the capt gets shot in the chest just over the left pec.... sorry if he really got shot the physics of the vest stopping that round would have knocked him flat, massive bruising and getting the air knocked out of him. you just done look down and say "oooo look at this i have a hole in my vest" if it was a rifle round his ass would be dead. but it doesn't matter because nobody off that whaling ship fired a shot.
