I forgot how easy it was to set up an Intel rig!

My NV7-133R kicked the bucket the other night.

So I hopped on the wagon down to Frys and took advantage of this smokin' hot deal. I haven't overclocked yet, but the stepping I got is one of the newest, and the reports on overclockers.com are excellent. 😉

So, I put the new board and chip into the case (the 478 P4s are cute little fellas 😉) and re-use all the same components, except for throwing a Soundblaster Live! card from my spare parts box in there to replace the NForce sound.

Now, I was using a RAID0 array with the NForce . . . dual WD 800JB Special Editions. Like Jack Burton always says, what the hell. I fired it up to see what happened . . .

It recognizes the RAID array and begins booting into Windows.(Both the 4G4A+ and the NV7 use Highpoint controllers) A smile begins to creep onto my face . . .

Windows loads fully. I log in . . . and it begins finding devices. Two reboots later, I'm back up and running.

Now here's the weird thing . . . the 2D quality on my Ti4200 seems much clearer than it did before. I didn't realize how muddy the graphics were, but now . . . wow! I'm sad to say that the sound on my SB Live! seems just as good as the NForce, which was plagued with weird poppings noises from time to time, and would give me hard drive activity noises from the speaker.

At least you're good at putting the P4's and the heatsinks in the motherboard. When I try to do it, I try so hard not to put it in the wrong way because I'm afraid that the CPU will fry. 😛 I'm going to try to build a P4 rig in the near future 🙂

I have pretty big hands, so I was worried about damaging the CPU, but it seemed to work all right . . . 😉 I like the way the heatsinks go on, though.

Sure. I just ransferred my GF4 Ti4400 to a Super 7 board with the VIA MVP3 chipset. Suddenly, the 2D actually seems clearer than my TH7-II board based on the Intel 850 chipset. The popping noises I usuallyhear with my Live! suddenly dissappeared....
I mean, c'mon. The 2D improved because you changed mobo's? (scratched head) I mean, I've also heard SB Live! cards popping all the time regardless of chipsets. I stare at the same monitor being driven by the same video card day in and day out and there are times I swear it looks clearer on some days and some days it looks like crap. Maybe I'm just hungry and my vision is blurry because of it? Just read a book and tried staring at the monitor and maybe my eyes haven't readjusted yet? Maybe stress blurred my vision? Its all about perception. Any person can be a bad person if you are having a bad day. And any person can easily turn into a good one when you are having a good day.

My SB Live never popped - the NForce on-board audio did.

JHC, don't they teach people how to read anymore? :disgust:

Well, my SB live! 5.1 used to pop a lot (same thing with my Audigy) but my nforce never did (asus board). My point is not all SBlive sound cards pop. Same thing with the nforce sound.
And yes, I think they still teach people how to read.

I'm glad everything went so smoothly for you! When I switched from my Abit KT7-RAID and T-Bird 800 to the Asus A7V333 and XP 1800+ I just needed my windows CD for some drivers, everything loaded up, BIOS picked up the hard drive no problem and windows rebooted a couple times and I was all done 🙂

Nice when things go so smoothly.
